I’m not going to lie, Block 8 “Like Riding a Bike”, really tested my patience and my piecing. Those pinwheels are about an inch and a half square! I was excited for this block way back at the beginning of the quilt-along because this image reminded me so much of our time in Cambridge, UK. All those bicycles with wicker baskets on the front of them. I had vision of riding through cobblestone street with a bagel in the basket, the wind in my hair and not a care in the world. (Cinema really has a lot to answer for in my life!)
I struggled with all the cutting to make this block. My patience for cutting out fabrics is at an all time low and it show when it came to making this block. (How am I going to go making 99 blocks for the Farmer’s Wife 1930’s Sampler Quilt Sew-along???) But now it’s done it’s one of my favourite blocks. Speaking of the Farmer’s Wife 1930’s Sampler Quilt Sew-along it’s the reason I’m about a month behind on these blocks and why today I’m also sharing my version of Block 9 “Quilty Cat”.
Unlike the bicycle block this one went together so quickly which was a massive relief. I loved the technique for making the quilt that the cat is laying on and it’s a fun way to making something quirky quickly. I must confess I don’t share the love of cats that two thirds of the internet does, but I’m really digging on this quilt block and it plays nicely with Block 4 “Puppy Love“.
Only 3 more blocks to do and the quilt will be done. I’d better get a wriggle on so that I can send it off to have some long arm magic worked on it! Next month’s block is my all time favourite in the quilt and I can’t wait to reveal it to you all.
For all of 2015 Fat Quarter Shop will be revealing a block a month of the Snapshots Quilt which was designed by the legendary Mother-Daughter duo Bonnie & Camille. The quilt is made up of 12 novelty blocks that capture and celebrate moments of happiness in our lives and is called “Snapshots”. Fat Quarter Shop are asking people to donate US$5 for each block that they download the pattern for with all money benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. (A fabulous cause!)
