A few weeks ago on the drive home I happened to see a fox running along side the road diving in and out of bushes. And ever since then I’ve been obsessed with all things fox.

Today’s a stealth Friday Fancies.  It’s all about ninja’s.  Sometimes I’m sure my HUBBY thinks he’s a ninja and I’m convinced our beagle has some ninja training when it comes to stealing food.  Regardless, these ninja inspired items made me smile and I’m sure would bring enjoyment to anyone lucky enough to receive one as a gift.

1.  Paul and Kat Buttons – How cute are these… you’d have to say they’re as cute as a button.  There’s so many wonderfully cute designs available and all at the bargain price of US$1.

2.  iRetrofone – All I can say is; I want one! I want one! I want one!  I love this old school design and it’s fully functional to boot. Now if I can just convince HUBBY that we need one…

3.  Wanderlust Multicolour Fringed Scarf – I’m a sucker for a wonderful scarf and this one is ticking all the boxes for me.  I love a good rainbow.  I was all set to purchase this scarf but alas they don’t ship to Australia. Bummer. So I’m just going to have to rely on internet lusting.

4.  Make Art Not War Poster – I am totally crushing on this poster.  I whole heartedly subscribe to it’s message.  I think this might be my next household purchase.

5.  YOU – I love this print with it’s fingerprint inspired font and it’s positive message.  Not to mention that it’s got the rainbow colour thing that I adore happening.

I’m having a Dad flavour this week, which has coincided with Father’s Day in America quite nicely.  So I thought for this week’s Friday Fancies I’d lead with things that I think my Dad would be chuffed to receive.

1.  Camera Cufflinks – Ok, so to be fair I probably like these more than my Dad would.  But as he’s into photography I thought I could squeeze these into the list.  They’re too cute to not include!

2.  Burlap Gift Bag – My Dad is partial to a nice wine and this gift bag would be a great way to jazz up the wine.

3.  Scrabble Tile Desk Sign – Might as well advertise the truth, right?  I love these because they remind me of something that a little kid could make for their Dad.  Somtimes the simplest craft is the best.

4.  Sterling Silver Personlised Golf Ball Markers – My Dad plays a bit of golf and I think these would be a great item to remind him how much you love him every time he plays.

5.  Walnut Mood Light (USB Powered) – Dad’s also into woodworking, so this light would be an awesome accessory.  In fact, I’m considering getting one for HUBBY… for those late night internet fixes.

On Tuesday night I passed my White Star♦ assessment for Roller Derby.  For me, passing my White Star assessment is massive so to celebrate I’ve found some Roller Derby inspired items for today’s fancies.

♦  There are official skill levels in Roller Derby to help maintain safety in the game; they’re called Stars and the white is the first level star.  There’s four levels of Stars at this stage.  The next Star I need to pass is Yellow.  Yellow Star means that I’ll be able to start serious contact and basic scrimmaging.

It’s my birthday and I’ll shop if I want too.  This week I’ve decided to go with a Friday Fancy theme based on items that I would love to call my own for my birthday.  It’s a varied bunch, but I adore them all.

a. Neighbourhood Ring – I love these little houses.  It would be like walking around with little people living on your hand.  Ok, that doesn’t sound as cool as I imagine it to be in my head.  But it’s cool damn it!

b. Felt Chocolate and Vanilla Cake Slice – Every birthday girl needs a wonderful cake, and what better kind of cake than one that won’t add to your hips!  This is so cute, the scroll detailing and the little roses.  Just so cute!!!  (Yes, it warrants all those exclamation marks.)

c. Vintage Purple 60s Westclox Alarm Clock – The colour, the typeface, the old school styling – it’s a winner.  I think this clock would make waking up on an early morning in winter nearly bearable… nearly… but that’s not any fault of the alarm clock, I just hate mornings.   Maybe if I had this alarm clock I could become a fan of mornings…

d. Bluebird Necklace – What a clever use of a sewing tape. I’m a sucker for funky jewelry and this one is pulling all my heart strings. I want…

e. Pink Hydrangea Oil Painting – These are my favourite flowers at the moment.  I would love to have a yard to fill with them, but I don’t have a big enough yard to do that at the moment.  So I’d be more than happy to have this painting hanging in my home to make up for the fact that there’s none in the yard.

f. Feather Vase – I’m loving clean white porcelain and these vases are just beautiful representations of that.  I love the feather motif.  We already have a BrooklynRehab garden pal so this would be wonderful to keep it company on our shelves.

g. Jiyong Mushroom Bear – He’s just so cute! I’m planning to teach myself how to make Amigurumi toys, but that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t be adverse to buy myself one already made, especially if they’re this cute!

Mother’s Day falls on 9 May this year and so I’m giving you enough warning to get your orders in.  Here’s my picks for a funky Mother’s Day this year.

1. Black Vintage Tram Roll Menu Tea Towel – It’s a fact of life that Mum’s spend a large amount of their time in the kitchen, so why not make her time in there enjoyable with this hip chic tea towel from Aussie designer Yardage Design.  These are great quality and well priced.  I nearly purchased one for our own kitchen last week at Shop Homemade!  (In fact I’m planning to get my hand on some of these to transform into cushion covers!) 2. Techee Too – My Mum loves her iPod and what better way for her to protect it while she’s out pounding the pavement then in one of these fabulous and funky cases.  Made with such a great selection of fabrics you’ll be spoiled for choice.  Handy and versatile they can accommodate an iPhone if you want to leave your iPod at home.  They even have a pocket in which to hold you drivers license, credit card and some cash.  So handy if you’re just popping to the shop and want to take your iPhone and the basics.

3. Ribbon Lipstick (Brooch) – Made by Canberra based artist Prim and Pretty these brooches are stunning.  I had the pleasure of seeing them again at Shop Homemade and then again when the wonderful Michelle from Button Tree Lane was sporting one at our last Brown Owls meeting.  They are made with such attention to detail and care it’s amazing and they just liven up any ensemble.  They’d be great on winter coats, bags, hats and even as a pendant.  I’m am so getting my hands on at least one, if not more!

4. Our Family Tree Necklace – This pendant is so intricate and beautiful.  What a great way to always carry your family tree with you.  I just love the current trend in disk pendants and this is a fabulous example.

5. Mother’s Day Handmade Card – All the things you want from a Mother and room to customise and add your own inside.  I love this card, not only because it’s handmade and mixes some awesome fonts and colour but because the message is so great.  In fact, I totally need one of these…

6. Mum’s Calling Cards – Mother’s are busy people and a lot of the time they’re out and about and meeting people or running into old acquaintances.  It only stands to reason that Mother’s should have some funky calling cards to give to people instead of scribbling messages on the backs of ATM slips and receipts from the grocery store.   Also handy for including in your kids bags as emergency contact details or leaving at front doors if you pop around to someone’s house for a surprise coffee and they’re not home.  Trust the wonderful team at Avie Designs to come up with something so versatile and stylish!
