Everyday I read through hundreds of posts and I see some pretty amazing things. Things that make me laugh. Things that make me crave. Things that make me think the world is a better place. Things that just make me go “WTF?!?!”. So I thought I’d start sharing those things with you all in a little spot I like to call “Link Love”.

So here goes:

From the style icon that is Design*Sponge comes Living In. It’s a series of collections based on movies. Every week I marvel at how they manage to put them together. I wouldn’t even know where to start! But this week I positively bounced in my seat. It’s Living In: Labyrinth. OMG!!! One of my all time favourite movies. If I was the kind of girl to *squee* I would have *squeed* all over the house. I’m totally crushing on the Iron Crown.

“Practice Random Kindness & Senseless Acts of Beauty” Whenever I need a mood boost I just head on over to Kind Over Matter and I’m immediately in a better frame of mind. So imagine my joy and surprise to find out that this week is Random Acts of Kindness Week (15 – 21 February). I’m not sure how I’m going to mark the occasion, but I’m going to do it somehow, someway. So stay tuned.

Sunday Sweets – Normally I head on over to Cake Wrecks to check out the devastating horror that is professional cake decorating at it’s worst. Oh, and to piss myself laughing. But I just couldn’t stop myself from going “awwwwww…” when I saw this post. As Dolly Parton said in Steel Magnolias, “… just too cha-cha for words!” (I’m not 100% sure what that means, but it seemed appropriate…) Of course I did also manage to get a laugh out of the rest of the weeks wrecks. Can anyone tell me what this isn’t supposed to be? (From this post.)

I also found something this week that I found impressive, but too impressive to try at home… so far. This “I Love You” Cake from the blog of Confections of a (Closet) Master Baker. While I love the idea of writing messages in food I don’t think I would have the time, the patience or the equipment to make this masterpiece. Although, with that being said all I’d probably need was the liberal encouragements of Alivicwil and a few trips to Annie’s Cake Place and I’d be willing to attempt it.

Apparently there’s a little thing called the Winter Olympics happening at the moment… if you, like me, are not into sport but love a good winter woolen than you need to check out “The Great Canadian Mitten Giveaway” happening over at Cafe Cartolina. Just a warning though, you’ll have to come up with some pretty obscure facts about Canada as I’ve already posted all the good ones!

Part of my 101 Tasks in 1001 Days List is to do with my little website here. I’d really love to get this site up and running and get more visitors, etc. You know the goal of every person that starts their own blogsite. This is my little corner of the internet world where I get to share the things that amuse me, soothe my soul and cause me lustful thoughts.

One of the things that I was keen to do was purchase some advertising space on blogs that I really love. So imagine my unbridled joy at hearing, via Twitter, that Kind Over Matter were having an advertising sale. It was kismet, and enough to make me launch myself off my death bed to take part of.

So I did it. I took out three months worth of advertising. Not only do I hopefully get some more readers, but I get to support a most amazing and wonderful blog in the process. It’s a win-win and there’s so few of those in life so you have to seize them when they come by!

Post Secret is “an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard.” Every Sunday a collection of postcards are posted on Post Secret, and every Sunday I look for secrets I never knew I had.

Sometimes I find myself laughing and sometimes I’m moved on a fundamental level. It continues to amaze me the things that people carry with them, and how we’re not that different from one another.

The great thing about these postcards is that you don’t see the person, just the card, so you’re not able to make the same judgment calls based on social and personal biases that you would normally make. It’s a great equalizer. Who knows your worst enemy may have just mailed your very secret and you’ll never know it. It’s a great teacher for tolerance and understanding; which is definitely something we need more of in this world.

Inspired by my favourite shoes I’ve done some Chuck Taylor inspired hunting and gathering for your enjoyment.

1. Shoefiti – This is such an iconic image. I love that it’s painted on an old book page. I think I’ll be adding this to my gift wish list for HUBBY.

2. Exercise Book Print – I purchased this print a while ago off Etsy. I love Andrea‘s work and I desperately wish more of it was available for purchasing. I have a stash of prints that I’m saving for the completion of our grand vision and this is one of them. I have the perfect spot for it picked out, if I could just get the rest of the vision happening. This size does not do the image justice, so if you can – click here for the bigger version! Even better, if you can spoil yourself and get your own copy to view up close and personal.

3. Recycled Scrabble Tile Pendant – There’s a few of these types of pendants available, but this is by far my favourite. Great quality image. Nice attention to detail on the Chucks. I would love to wear this.

4. Middle East Red Scarf – I found “Punk Your Chucks” via google. Despite a great concept, these were the only Chucks that I really fell for. The detail on them is brilliant and I love the scarf edging detail. I don’t think however they actually sell this pattern…

5. Converse T-shirt - Very cute and I like that you can pick your own colour combination. Would also work well with actual size shoes – one on the front and one on the back, like they were slung over one shoulder.

6. 124:365 – This is the image that inspired this little Chuck inspired madness. [Found via Kindness Over Matter.] Unfortunately I can’t see whether it’s available as a print or not. Guess I’ll just have to go and re-enact it with my own shoes and hang it on the fridge that way.

1. mycharliegirl – There’s something almost magical about the effortless grace that Bec Winnel seems to imbide her artworks with. I adore it. I can’t decide which print I would like to buy, so I’m going to wait and maybe buy a pair… or three. At this rate I’m going to run out of wall space in our house!

2. Totally Funky – I love these bags! Too cute for words! I found these via Lobster & Swan. And yes, I’ve ordered one! Wheee!

3. Erin Jane – These wonderfully whimsical works made a double appearance in my blog reading this week. First on Kind Over Matter and secondly on Decor8. Always a great sign when these two blogs pick up an artist. I love the simple messages which are combined with simple but effective images. Yet another print to add to the ever growing collection I have.

4. Rome – HBO consistently deliver visually amazing and gripping series, and this is definitely one of them. It’s captivating. The costuming alone is enough to make your heart sing, but then combined with the politics and intrigue it’s sublime. If you have the ability I highly recommend checking it out.

5. Bad – You’d have to be living under a rock to not know that Michael Jackson‘s life ended. Regardless of what you think about the life he lead, the interests he pursued or the circus that has become the end of his life you have to admit that he made good music. My favourite non Jackson 5 album has to be Bad. It also happens to be one of the first albums I ever purchased.

This week has been a funny one. My moods have been up and down like the proverbial yo-yo, and it would seem I’m not the only one. So to try and bring some good will into the office, and in the process cheer myself up, I decided to do a Kind Over Matter card drop. The premise is a simple one:

Have you ever left something beautiful for a stranger to find, have you ever found something beautiful yourself? – Kind Over Matter

I downloaded and printed out the free quote cards and then set myself to the task of annonymously hiding them around the office. It was great. I had fun hiding them and the others had fun trying to work out who’d done it and what other cards were out there. It certainly improved my mood and the mood of others in the office. I’m definitely going to be doing it again, only this time broadening the drop zone. Stay tuned…
