CREATIVE SPACE: BLUE BIRD

I’m a little late with my Creative Space this week, but I’m hoping you’ll forgive me when you see what I’ve been working on.

Lately I’ve been really moved by some of the embroidery that I’ve been seeing on the great creative blogs out there.  I’m especially crushing on Carina’s Craftblog.  Which is lucky because Carina has published a wonderful ebook on embroidery.  I purchased the book on Thursday night and I’ve been searching for a way to use it ever since.

I hit the jackpot when I stumbled on to the blog Feeling Stitchy.  It’s a massively wonderful resource for all things stitched.  I fell in love with so many of the projects on there but I still wasn’t sure what to do so I went looking for more inspiration.

I was lucky enough to come across Vintage Transfer Finds and there I fell in love with this little birdie.  I stitched it up in no time and I’m so proud of it.  I even managed to do my first french knot and it worked!

I’m so smitten with it.  I decided to turn it into a little coin purse based on the tutorial on Cat Taylor which I found through the very amazing Creative Space by Megan at Simple Pleasures.

I used some of the new fabric I picked up this week at Addicted to Fabric and lined it with a bright purple just for something fun.

So what do you think?  I’m thinking that it would be a great little giveaway to one lucky commenter.  So if you’d like a little blue bird to keep your change happy just leave a comment on this post letting me know where you’d take the blue bird on your adventures.  Comments will be closed at 8pm AEST on Tuesday 9 March 2010.

Hi, your purse is so cute! thanks for the mention too- I have become completely addicted to making those purses! it’s a great tutorial isn’t it. I learnt how to do french knots too just recently, they are very useful aren’t they.
I would take the little blue bird purse on little adventures to the park or the playground as that’s where I go most of the time at the mo!
Thanks, have a great day!

It was my pleasure, your post this week got me up and moving in the craft department. I also picked up the felties book with a thought to do some of those as well. I just love your lion with the stripy purse!

Did you use a special needle for sewing with the plastic? Those red dots are so cute!

Thanks for stopping by!!! :)

Hi, I just used my normal needle and it worked fine through the plastic and cotton fabric. I found it a bit tricky doing the bag with the plastic, cotton and then oil cloth for the lining so maybe I would have been better to use a stonger needle for that. Have no idea about needles really but luckily my Bernina shop is very helpful! A friend also suggested using nylon thread if making a toilet bag as it won’t rot like cotton if its gets too much water on it. Haven’t got any yet but am keen to try it :)

That’s incredibly cute! I think I would use him to guard over all of my good art pens ^_^

A guard bird! He’ll lull you into a false sense of security with his cuteness and then rip your eyes out if you go to touch the pens! :) LOL

Too cute! I just got into sewing, but I started my crafting in cross stitch and embroidery, so this is a match! I’ll have to try mixing the 2!!

I just got into sewing too. I’m trying to see how many elements I can work in together ;)

It’s lots of fun.

I’m such a bad change user. I’m always breaking up notes and gadding about with saggy pockets. Your embroidery is very sweet, and I would love you to give it away to some poor soul who is as useless with their money as me! If you ever make something a bit more tomboy and want to give it away, I’ll lean on you then – until then :) Very well done!

What do you class as ‘tomboy’ cause I could be persuaded to do something very custom for the lovely Red. :)

:) That is sweet but I couldn’t! I will keep following the blog via facebook though!

Oh man! I just decided I need a coin purse! Like, literally, I have a sticky note on my desk that says “get a coin purse” that I just put there two days ago.

I’d take it with me everywhere to remind me of my wonderful Gnomey in Australia. ;)

Coin purses are all the rage now :)

Actually they’re very handy. I love mine.

btw, re-added on LJ. :) Good to have you back!

Aww, it’s darling. I admit I’m just as enchanted by the purple lining as the bluebird. :)

I thought the purple was a sweet touch too. I love me some good purple.

Thanks for the mention – your purse is so cute, love your bluebird and I am sure if he came to live with us, one of my girls would adopt him before I get a chance!
