Mischief Quilt Pattern by The DIY Addict

Mischief Quilt - Pattern and Templates by Karen at The DIY Addict. Find out more about this version of the Mischief Quilt by Angie Wilson at www.GnomeAngel.com

I’m embarrassed to think about how long I’ve had the Mischief Quilt Kit from Karen at The DIY Addict in my possession before making a start on it. Karen emailed me months ago and asked me if I’d like to make this quilt and I hesitated because I knew how busy I was, but Karen persisted and in the end I couldn’t deny how much I’m in love this shape. I’ve had so many projects on the go and life in Casa Gnome has been anything but smooth sailing in the past five months, so the thought of sitting down to hand stitch just filled me with dread.  I’ve not really been feeling the creative mojo and so I’ve been treading water and just doing enough to keep everything ticking over in the hope my desire to make would return.

I don’t know what’s changed, but the fog is lifting from our little house, things are getting back on track and I’m starting to feel the desire returning. It’s been really nice and I’m so thrilled that for the first time since the Mischief Quilt Kit arrived on my doorstep I actually feel like making something with it. I’ve been drooling over the #MischiefQuilt hashtag on Instagram and I’ve got an idea in mind for the direction I’d like to head with this. I know I don’t have a full EPP quilt in me just yet, but I have a cushion or table runner (or both) just waiting to be made.

I’ve gone to my go-to happy fabric place and started cutting into my Lizzy House stash to make rosettes and it’s been really nice to be back playing with Lizzy. We’ve had my Lizzy and the City quilt on our bed for the past couple of months and it’s made me so happy to wake up to that I figured I needed more Lizzy around the house. You can never have too much of a good thing, right?

The Mischief Quilt Kit comes with everything you need to get started, or alternatively you can purchase the different parts of the kit (templates, papers, pattern) separately. I love having it all come together because I know that everything will work together without me having to fudge anything. The templates are really sturdy and I love the thickness of them as they give me something to hold onto while cutting with the rotary cutter (which means I’m less likely to cut a finger off!). I find the seam allowance a little thicker then I’m used to, but that’s not a deal breaker.

The papers are a really good quality, which is great if you (like me) like to glue baste and reuse your papers. The pattern is easy to understand and the fact that there’s four different layout options given really helps get the creative juices flowing. The inclusion of a colouring sheet is really handy as well and it’s something that I’m loving seeing more and more pattern designers doing. I love that Karen has provided a comprehensive guide (with video tutorials) online to help you complete this project. This means that where ever you are you don’t need to take the instructions with you, you can just use your mobile device.

I’m really looking forward to spending more time over the coming weeks making my own version of Mischief.
