Monday 26 January was Australia Day. Australia Day is the day that we Aussies celebrate what makes us grouse. It means a lot of different things to different people, but to me it means getting together with friends and family and enjoying some ‘traditional’ Aussie pasttimes. Like cricket, taking the piss, lamingtons and enjoying our freedom.
This year HUBBY and I hosted a BBQ with a side of street cricket. It wasn’t anything massive, just some marinated meat on the barbie accompanied by salads, bread rolls and good company. I’d love to say that we counted down the top 100 songs of 2008 via the Triple J Hottest 100, but I’d be lying. We did hear some of it, but I couldn’t tell you who won.
I had a brilliant day. The street cricket was a giggle. Way too hot to be playing, but the frosty fruits afterwards made up for that.
The day ended up getting the better of us, so the ladies took the PS3 and headed to the house with air conditioning. The lads on the other hand stayed on and battled the heat to watch a losing cricket match.
Thank goodness for commercialism. Target was open on the public holiday so we picked up some extra controllers for the PS3 so the four of us could play Little Big Planet together. It was so worth it. I thought I was going to bust a lung laughing so hard. It was an awesome night. A great way to celebrate being an Australian!
