General Event Information

The following information relates to all sew-alongs and events run by Angie Wilson of GnomeAngel.com

Information about Timezones

click to close

All dates, as written on this website and on all GnomeAngel associated social media (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and newsletters, will be in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). This is the timezone for Sydney, Australia.

To be eligible for prizes you need to have meet the requirements for the event as per your timezone. It’s simple and means you don’t have to worry about doing any time conversions, etc. This means if an event kicks off on the 1 January, then that’s the 1 January in your timezone. Keep in mind that I will be posting information on my website and social media as per my timezone so I may post earlier then you. If you read the information associated with all social media posts you will find the information you need for participating in that particular event.

WHAT IF I MISS POSTING A BLOCK/ITEM ON TIME?

close

I know participating in a sew-long or event can be hard to juggle in between all the competing demands that life throws your way. I get it, it’s throwing them at me too. I also know how big the prizes on offer are for these sew-alongs and events. Unfortunately when it comes to winning the big ticket items you’re not going to be able to miss an entry requirement. I do my best to monitor events and make sure that the pace of the event is working for the majority of people. If/when required I will also amend the event timetable to give people extra time to meet the eligibility requirements.

Please see the event specific FAQs for information relating to the sew-along or event you’re interested in via the menu at the top of this page.

WHEN WILL THE WINNERS BE ANNOUNCED?

close

Please see the event specific FAQs for information relating to the sew-along or event you’re interested in via the menu at the top of this page.

I DON’T THINK THE WINNER WAS CORRECT, CAN I TALK TO THE ORGANISERS ABOUT IT?

close

I’m sure you can appreciate just how much time and effort goes into running this type of event. The organisers give of their precious time to host the event, as such it means that their decisions are final. I will do my best to ensure each winner has complied with the requirements, however accidents happen to the best of us. Regardless, I will not enter into a debate on how winners were chosen nor will I discuss your opinions on whether they were deserving or if there is someone you feel better suits. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

A REQUEST FROM THE ORGANISERS…

close

Please be respectful and patient. We are managing a large group of participants and answering lots of different requests for information daily. Please do not spam us looking for an answer – we will get to you, I promise. We all have busy lives and we work really hard to make answering things a priority, but sometimes life gets in the way. So please, consider that on the other side of your phone we could be dealing with a 4 year old who’s just power vomited through the house from 10pm to 3am while you’re asking us about timezones and block construction – some things take priority over answering immediately, but you are important to us and we will get to you – I promise! Let me just get this spew cleaned up first!

We also ask that you read all the information provided. We pride ourself on providing thorough and comprehensive information however it’s your responsibility to read it. We’ll do what we can to help you out if we see something, but we will not be going through Instagram and letting you know if your image post needs correcting to be eligible to win prizes (there’s just too many of you – horrible problem to have, I know! *wink*).

Event Supplies

The following information is general information about all sew-alongs and events, please see the event specific FAQs for information relating to the sew-along or event you’re interested in.

close

Please note that this is provided as a courtesy and I take no responsibility (nor can I control) stock levels, pricing or postage.

HOW MUCH FABRIC DO I NEED?

close

Please see the sew-along and event specific information that is available via the menu bar at the top of this page for the pattern you are interested in.

DO I HAVE TO USE A SPECIFIC FABRIC OR BUNDLE?

close

This is all about making a quilt that you will love and cherish, so please use whatever fabrics make your heart sing. There’s no rules about what fabrics you can use. Just have fun!

HOW AM I GOING TO CHOOSE MY FABRICS?

close

Where possible I will provide information about how to select fabrics for specific sew-alongs and events, this information is available via the menu bar at the top of this page for the pattern you are interested in.

If only there was a colouring sheet I could use to plan my quilt!

Information about Instagram

The following information is general information about Instagram and how to use it for the purpose of sew-alongs and events. Please see the sew-along and event specific FAQs for information about posting schedules, hashtag requirements and more for the event you are interested in.

Please note, I am unable to provide IT support for Instagram. If you have a technical question about installing or using Instagram please ask Google. There is extensive support documentation for Instagram available online.

WHAT IF MY ACCOUNT ON INSTAGRAM IS PRIVATE?

close

I’m really sorry, but if your account is private we won’t be able to see your blocks and therefore you won’t be eligible to enter the competitions. One way around this, if you’re really keen to participate but don’t want to share your private moments (which is completely understandable), is to create a second account and just post your blocks on this account. Instagram now makes it really easy to flip between accounts so it shouldn’t be too cumbersome to manage. You can read the Instagram help file on how to do this by clicking here.

HOW MANY HASHTAGS DO I HAVE TO USE?

close

There’s 2 reasons why you would use hashtags; 1. to connect with others in the community, and 2. to win prizes. Please see the sew-along and event specific information that is available via the menu bar at the top of this page for the pattern you are interested in.

Do you have any information on how to use Instagram to participate?

close

Why yes I do. Click here to read a post I’ve written about troubleshooting Instagram which will help you. Please note that this blog post was written for another event so be sure to see the sew-along and event specific information that is available via the menu bar at the top of this page for the sew-along or event you are interested in for that events specific entry requirements.

Making the Sew-along or Event Item

The following information is general information in regards to making items as part of specific sew-alongs and events. Please see the sew-along and event specific FAQs for information specific to the sew-along or event you are participating in.

DO I HAVE TO MAKE THE Item AS PER THE PATTERN?

close

Ah… yes with one exception.

Because theses sew-alongs and events have prizes associated with them I need to make the playing field as level as possible to ensure everyone has a fighting chance at meeting the eligibility requirements, to do this there needs to be parameters to how people participate. The easiest way for me to do this is to make sure everyone who wants to be eligible for prizes, sticks to the pattern. This ensures people are all using the same skills and have the same constraints when it comes to time.

For the purpose of prize eligibility I am only concerned with seams. You can alter how many fabrics are in the block. For example the block has 4 fabrics in it but you really want to use a fifth fabric in there – that’s not a problem. However you can not remove or add seams to the blocks. You’re making the item exactly as it is in the pattern.

The one exception: This is only if you want to be eligible for prizes, if you don’t care about prizes you can make the item in whatever manner you like. The real purpose here is to have fun!

WHAT IF THE BLOCK PICTURE AND THE BLOCK DIAGRAM DON’T MATCH IN THE PATTERN?

close

Please be sure to check the version of the pattern you are using as there is a newer version. Errata information if known is provided with the sew-along and event specific FAQs and can be found via the menu at the top of this page.

If issues arise I will go with either the seam line in the pattern diagram or the block as pictured in the final quilt on the pattern. We will address any issues with discrepancies when we cover that section/block/item as part of the event timetable.

CAN I USE AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD TO CONSTRUCT THE ITEM?

close

Yes and no. In some cases I will work with the pattern designer to provide you with alternative methods of construction to help make the pattern as inclusive as possible for everyone. However this is event specific and therefore you need to pay close attention to the requirements for each event. (Don’t worry, they’ll be well documented and repeated constantly.) Please see the sew-along and event specific FAQs for information specific to the sew-along or event you are participating in.

FYI: Anyone found to be providing alternate patterns for making the blocks (such as foundation paper pieced patterns, appliqué templates) will be disqualified from the prize pool. You can make and use them yourself but sharing them without the express written constent of pattern designer is in violation of this competition and it’s just plain disrespectful to all the hard work that the pattern designer has done. You need to buy (or borrow from a library) the pattern to be in the running for the wonderful prizes on offer. If in doubt please please contact me by clicking here.

SOMEONE HAS ASKED ME FOR THE MEASUREMENTS FOR THE ITEM, CAN I SHARE THEM?

close

Anyone found providing the measurements for blocks (regardless of whether it’s the original size, a mini version or a maxi version) without the express written consent of the pattern designer in their social media captions, comments, blog, website or Facebook will be disqualified from entry into the prize pool (this applies to also encouraging people to email you or message you for the details). You need to buy (or borrow from a library) the pattern to be in the running for the wonderful prizes on offer. If in doubt please please contact me by clicking here.

I’VE USED ANOTHER METHOD OF CREATING THE ITEM, CAN I SHARE IT?

I’M ASSEMBLING THE ITEM AND I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT <INSERT SPECIFICS HERE>.

close

All sew-alongs and events are run with very specific timetables. This is done for a number of reasons and allows for the event organiser to run numerous events over the course of a year. If you are ahead of the event timetable and you are having an issue with something that has not yet been covered in the event timetable then unfortunately I will not be able to provide troubleshooting for this until we are at that section of the event. (Mainly because I’m probably not at that stage yet myself!) If you’re having issues and you can’t wait then please contact the pattern designer directly. I thank you for your patience and understanding.

A WORD ON ASSEMBLY FOR THOSE THE WANT TO BE IN THE RUNNING FOR THE PRIZES

close

If you’re in the camp of assembling before we get to that part of the sew-along then please know that the item must be assembled as per the pattern. Making it bigger, smaller or rearranging the block order may put you out of the running for prizes. If you’re at all worried about this, please wait till we get to the assembly section to put it together and see how it’s being treating it. There’s heaps of time in the timetable for assembly so don’t panic.

A WORD ON QUILT ASSEMBLY FOR THOSE THE WANT TO DON’T CARE ABOUT THE PRIZES

close

If you’re just in it to make the item with friends and keep motivated then you can assemble the item however you like. Same with adding or subtracting blocks/borders or even coming up with a new layout. It’s all good and we’d love to see it so be sure to use the hashtag and continue to share with the community.

DOES MY QUILT NEED TO BE QUILTED TO WIN A PRIZE?

close

Nope. This is all about getting you to the point of having a finished quilt top. But if you’re super organised and motivated and have a finished quilt in time for the reveal then that’s fabulous and it will still be eligible for prizes (if you meet all the other criteria). Please see the sew-along and event specific FAQs for information specific to the sew-along or event you are participating in.

I hope the this information has been helpful.
