Link Love: Burnt Fabric & Fabulous Finds

Right in the middle of one of the busiest quilting times of my life the most annoyingly frustrating thing has happened, and it’s worse than all the little things that life has been throwing at me, like illness, workload, traveling, etc. …. My iron is busted. Do you know how often you use an iron when quilting? All.the.time! I use my iron more than I use my sewing machine when it comes to being creative. This is what I get for sharing my iron.

My husband is the clothes ironer in our family, which is fabulous and only fitting as he’s the only one that really wears things that need to be ironed. However, now that I’m back at work more often I need more office clothes and so he kindly (and what’s sexier than this? Nothing!) offered to iron my work pants for me. Yay! I hate them. They’re synthetic crappy pants that I bought in a hurry one day when I realised I needed to get pants that fit. I didn’t even try them on, I just grabbed and dashed. Big mistake! They’re horrible. Horrible!

But back to the iron – Hubs did me a solid and ironed my pants. He also managed to singe the pants on the iron and now it has black synthetic fibres from hell all over it. They’re refusing to come off… oh no, I lie. They came off… ALL OVER MY PATCHWORK! I could have cried. Because, what I don’t need more than losing time to illness, work, family life is to lose my most prized Heather Ross gnome fabric to the iron!!!! *wail*

I scrubbed the plate of the iron until the cleaning pad I was using fell apart and still those fibres cling. There’s nothing left but to go buy another iron and leave the corrupted iron to the fitting task of ironing our work gear. I cannot believe that an iron is what derailed my sewing plans. Oh well, could be worse. But for now I’m off to hope I can find the same iron on sale somewhere. Wish me luck!

PS. For those wondering the Philips Azur Steam Iron is my preferred weapon of choice.

Canberra Quilters Inc. are celebrating their 40th Anniversary in 2016 and to mark the occasion they’re holding a “Celebrate 40 Challenge”.
