CRAFTY | THE WEDDING QUILT
…hanging in the Hills Hoist Gallery…
The Wedding Quilt is done, and I love it. I picked it up fromΒ Helen (of Altogether Quilting) last week and it’s just divine.
Helen and I opted for an all over heart pattern for the quilting.Β (We searched for a stag/deer/elk pattern to tie in with a reading that the couple had at their wedding (the groom is referred to as a stag!) and we couldn’t find one so we opted for a romantic heart instead.)
I was worried that a heart pattern would look a bit naff and cutesy, but I think it came up really well. It’s subtle and doesn’t scream 12yo in love with Jordan Knight like my grade 7 diary which is covered in hearts does.
Helen attached the label to the quilt and stitched over it like I wanted. (I always try to get the label quilted as well because I’m worried about them coming loose or, in this case, the embroidery coming undone.Β I figure the more stitches in it the less likely to loose it.)
Helen also did the binding for me.Β I adore this print as binding – it came up so much better than I could have imagined. (I think I’ll track down some more of this fabric and put it in the stash for future binding!)
The surprise that I mentioned in my previous post about the construction of this quilt; our signatures.
The quilt is a combined gift from our family and another family that is friends with the newlyweds and so I thought it would be nice if we all signed our names on the quilt label.Β The other family has 3 children and they signed their names and it’s my favourite part of the quilt.
I love that their writing shows their personality and ages.Β In 20 years time it will be a really sweet thing to be able to look back and see how they’ve grown and changed.Β It’s was also a great way to include them in the project.
I really love this quilt.Β It’s size makes it a great snuggle quilt for those cold winter nights on the couch, and can then transition into the perfect baby quilt.
I am completely indebted to Helen for her work on getting this quilt completed. She took my nearly finished project and worked her magic to make something really lovely. I was feeling the pressure to get this done on time and the minute I handed it to Helen all that pressure just dissolved.
We gave the newlyweds their gift on the weekend and I think it was a hit.Β I really hope it’s something they use and that it becomes part of their family story.

This is absolutely beautiful! I love all the little details that add the heirloom touch.
It’s a beautiful quilt and I’m sure it will be cherished by the happy couple. The quilting is stunning.
Thanks Anorina – I’m quite happy with how it turned out π (which is half the battle I think!)
I love it! The colours, the pattern and the quilting all look amazing!
Such a gorgeous and very sentimental gift for such a special day!
You did a great job!
xx
Thanks Pea. I do so hope they like it. One down, 11 to go. π
How could you not love this quilt …. so beautiful. What an amazing gift ….. just gorgeous. Something they will have forever and such a special thing to have. Love it Gnomeangel.
Thanks Leonie! π I do hope they love it for years to come.
What a lovely gift! I bet it would mean so much to the recipients – you can see how much care and love went into making that quilt! My aunt made one a quilt for me for my 21st and I still use it now, love it π
Thanks Rose. π I hope it’s something they can use for years to come. I love having a house full of quilts – they’re so personal and something practical that everyone can use (especially in the Canberra winters!)
looks gorgeous! Love the colours you chose
Thanks Tash π
I picked the colours based on the wedding scheme the bride had picked out.
It’s fantastic. I’m so proud of you and how far you’ve come as a quilter! ( although you have always inspired me)
Ok… so for the first time in forever I don’t know how to respond… YOU INSPIRE ME! Seriously, if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing and I can’t thank you enough for that!
(And… you were right this quilt totally needs those yellow strips in there. The quilting really toned them down and they give the quilt a certain pop!)
It’s beautiful & I love the little @s … so very “now”.
Thanks π
We all meet over the internet so I figured using our twitter handles would be kind of appropriate. They’ll probably have to explain to their children in decades to come what it all means. π
