CRAFTY | QUILT INSPIRATION
Yesterday I shared with you my latest fabric purchase and alluded to some quilt projects that I’d like to tackle over the coming months.ย Well today I’m going to share with you my “Wannabe List”.ย I call it that because these are the projects I “wannabe” making!

I’m a Ginger Monkey’s Scrap Vomit Quilt – I love the look of this quilt and I’ve really loved watching Katy make multiple versions of it.ย (I can’t believe some of the fabrics she’s found! They’re so hideous they’re awesome.)ย I also love this quilt because it’s a great way to keep a little piece of all the fabrics I’ve used and loved with me.ย This quilt also reminds me of the old school quilts that you see in Hallmark movies.ย You know the ones, where there’s some emotional challenge that needs discussing and the distressed lady is under a quilt on the couch eating from a tub of ice-cream and crying about some lad.ย I want to be that lady. (Minus the crying over a lad and the emotional challenge – I’m all for eating icecream from a tub though!)
I’ve even started stalking fabric places for scrap bags of really bad novelty prints just to add to a scrap quilt. How silly is that! I love that Katy also expanded on her theory of scrap vomiting on this post.ย I’m so keen to do a scrap swap… maybe I should organise one… we could all swap one of the Block A‘s and make an internet scrappy quilt… I like this idea very much!ย Hmmm… might see what I can organise… Leave me a comment if it’s something you think you’d be interested in doing.

Swoon Quilt – I was first alerted to the existence of this quilt by Buttontree Lane, Krafty Kuka and Petits Elefant.ย I like to think of this quilt pattern as a ninja.ย I saw it and thought “Yeah, it’s nice but I don’t think it’s something I’d like to do.”ย Then a few days ago *BAM* it hit me – I love this quilt and I am going to make at least 1.ย Seriously, it just became an overwhelming urge.ย I must make this quilt.ย I don’t know what it was but it’s stuck in my head and I’ve laid awake at night thinking about how to make it and what fabrics I would use.
I think it was seeing the block super sized by Montse Cose Cose that made me really think about this quilt.ย I would love to make a super sized version. It would be a great pattern for those massive print fabrics as you’d be able to get a large section of fabric in the block. *le sigh*
I’m currenlty working on a cross stitch secret project and it’s got my desire to do more stitching back, so I was uber excited to see A Praire Sunrise’s Swoon Quilt Cross Stitch.ย I just need to find her pattern. (Little Man is making getting uninterrupted internet surfing time difficult!)ย How cool is quilting as cross stitching – it’s like two worlds colliding… like when you first realised that Sheldon’s Mother is actually Leonard’s Aunt.

Great Granny Squares Quilt – This is another example of crafts colliding.ย As an avid granny hooker (that sounded so much better in my head…) I love the idea of crossing the granny square over into the quilting world. (Could you just die to see it as a cross stitch!)ย This quilt block is really effective and makes you to a double take.ย I love it.ย I love this version (above) by Pleasant Home.ย I think it’s the use of white as white space.ย It just makes it pop.

Christmas Stockings – Inspired by these personalised stockings by Meringue Designs I’ve decided to make us all stockings for the Little Man’s first Christmas.ย Only one hitch; I need to find a way to get them embroidered.ย I also probably need to get my finger out of my butt and buy a sewing machine that will allow me to quilt.ย But having a deadline is a great motivator for me so I may just make that happen.
Isn’t the internet a brilliant place to find inspiration and motivation? So this is my inspiration at the moment, what’s yours?

Love all these quilts you have found! I find and save quilts I like to interest and then show them to my mom since I can’t sew a straight line to save my life. Right now she makes them for the kiddos (I’m still baking baby girl, 39 weeks tomorrow!) but I’ve informed her of the upcoming task to make a quilt for our bed. Just need to pick out fabrics and a pattern and convince her she can take on a project so large ๐
Oh great minds! Jan and I were talking yesterday about sorting out our respective sewing rooms and sorting the scraps and other fabrics into categories. I should totally do a “scrap vomit” category. It’s the ultimate eye spy quilt!
I’m a bit too slap-dash in my piecing to do a swap and I doubt my blocks would be up to the rigours of swapping.
Love all your inspuirations. They are mine too. Yesterday I bought a mozza of patterns online, then last night I downloaded some more gorgeous freebies. And I’m addicted to a particular quilting lesson youtube channel at the moment. My brain is exploding with ideas!
I hadn’t thought about the quality of the sewing (mine is shocking!) so I wonder if it would be better (and get more people involved) if we just swapped 2.5″ squares (enough to make a block). That way people could use them as they like and our sewing wouldn’t be questioned.
Well today I bit the bullet and brought a sewing machine… so now I won’t have ANY excuses for not starting these projects. ๐
I can’t wait to see what magic you make!!!
