Crossroads Quilt-along: Diamond Block Revealed

Fat Quarter Shop Crossroads Quilt-along: See my version of the Crossraods Quilt at www.GnomeAngel.com
The second block pattern in the Fat Quarter Shop Crossroad’s Quilt-along benefiting March of Dimes has been released and it’s the Diamond Block. Continuing on my black and white theme for this quilt I’ve made these next blocks using the Marti Michell Perfect Patchwork Templates Set Q (click here to purchase). I opted to use the templates because I’m lazy and they make cutting out the pieces super quick and accurate. (If you have the Marti Michell templates and you want to use them for other patterns (and why wouldn’t you?) then I’d highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of Marti Michell’s More Bang for Your Buck (click here to purchase). It clearly outlines which templates (and sets) you can use to create a variety of different patchwork shapes and sizes. It’s how I worked out what templates to use for this pattern.)

I must confess I really struggled with the absence of colour in these blocks. I’m so used to doing bright, highly saturated modern colours that these blocks had me scratching my head for a bit and trying to work out the best way to approach them. It wasn’t pretty and I have 3 other partially finished blocks to prove it. But in the end I’m really happy with how these three turned out and I’m getting excited seeing them next to the few other blocks I’ve completed.

This block is reminiscent of Mrs Brown from the Farmer’s Wife 1930’s Sampler Quilt (click here to see it). If you’d like to join in and make this fabulous quilt then keep reading as I have all the details on how you can get the free pattern, what templates go with which pattern piece and the other bloggers sharing their amazing versions.
