Little Ruby Sew Along with Fat Quarter Shop

LittleRuby-Quilt

When Fat Quarter Shop asked me to be one of their official bloggers on the Little Ruby Quilt-along I jumped at the chance because I wanted a crack at making and machine piecing hexagons. And not just the normal kind, the one with multiple pieces that hints at movement and interest. But here’s the kicker, there’s two quilts for the price of one happening with this quilt. (You’ll have to stick around on the quilt-along to see why!) This quilt has been designed exclusively for Fat Quarter Shop by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms.

Fat Quarter Shop gave us free reign on the fabrics we could use and so I took the opportunity to play with some fabrics I’ve had my eye on for awhile. I’m going to play with something that’s got me a little hot and bothered; Kaffe Fasset in pastel (click here to purchase). Yep, pastel! Are you ready for this? I’m partnering it with Kona Pastel’s jelly roll. There’s going to be pastels for days!

Little Ruby Sew-along with Fat Quarter Shop: Angie Wilson of www.GnomeAngel.com shares her take on this great quilt made with jelly rolls and Creative Grid's Double Strip Ruler and Hexagon Trim Tool.

I’m not going for a distinctive background, I’m going Kona White Jelly Roll (click here to purchase) on Kona White Yardage (click here to purchase). What can I say, I know what I like. I’m hoping the massive amount of white is going to make the pastels sing.

The quilt requires two special rulers; Creative Grids Hexagon Trim Tool (click here to purchase) and Creative Grids 60° Strip Ruler (click here to purchase). I’ve never used these rulers and after watching the Fat Quarter Shop video (below) I’m really excited to get in the sewing room and use them. I have long lusted after triangle quilts and if the 60° Strip Ruler works as well as it appears to I’m seeing a lot of triangle quilts in my future.

I’m going to be keeping good company with some amazing bloggers joining in and quilting along. (You can see who at the bottom!) I’m so excited to see all the different fabric combinations. If you need more incentive to join in then be sure to watch the video below.
