MEET BEC SKYBERRIES
Today’s Blog Host on the Sea Breeze Mini Quilt-a-Long has one of the best names of all time: Bec Skyberries. Seriously, it’s like she’s a superhero.
I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Bec and see her work. You can read a little bit about here and then head on over to her blog to check out her cool Sea Breeze Mini.

1. How did you come to be a quilter?
My grandma used to sew and my great-grandmother was a court dress maker so I guess maybe sewing is in my blood! I started sewing when I was about 15 (taught by my Dad who doesn’t really sew but knows just enough about everything to be dangerous!) and I made many of my own clothes as a teenager. I liked the idea of making a quilt but it wasn’t until I discovered the online modern quilting world that I decided to put the thought into reality. I started my first quilt in early 2011, just one hundred 6” squares in a simple patchwork layout. After much procrastination about basting and quilting I finally finished it in early 2012. That first quilt went to live with my Nanna as she had emergency surgery just as I was finishing the binding. It is much loved and well used! From that first quilt I was hooked and the obsession just keeps growing!

2. What is it that you love about being a quilter?
Fabric! And the fact that you can totally justify buying forty new fabrics for one project! Ha ha! But seriously I like that quilting is a lovely combination of craft and art. I love choosing colours and placing them next to each other to create interest and depth. And although I’m pretty new to the online quilting community I’m so enjoying being a part of it and meeting people who find chopping up fabric and sewing it back together again as interesting (and sane!) as I do!
3. What’s your 3 favourite quilts that you’ve made that reflect who you are as a quilter?
Who I am as a quilter is changing rapidly as I learn and experiment. My favourites are probably the quilt I made for my son before he was born (gender neutral as we didn’t find out if it was a boy or a girl!), the mini medallion quilt I designed for the Pantone Colour of the Year contest earlier this year and the quilt that I’m working on now – a simple patchwork in blues and greens that I’m making for me!!

A Bit of Fun:
If you could only have one or the other for the rest of eternity what would you choose?
1. Fabric: Solid or Pattern? Pattern!
2. Quilt Styles: Pattern or Improv? Pattern
3. Seams: Open or to the Side? Open! Controversial I know, but I’m so much more accurate when I press open! I tried pressing to the side again recently just to see and my block tuned out a quarter inch too small!
4. Stitching: Hand or Machine? Machine
5. Binding: Hand or Machine? Hmmm, both? I love the look of hand binding but I’m too lazy to do it on all my quilts. Machine is just so quick!
6. Food: Sweet or Savoury? Sweet!!!
7. Entertainment: Books or Music? Books
8. Entertainment: Television or Movies? Television
9. Computer: Mac or Windows? Windows
10. Drink: Coke or Pepsi? Coke
