MEET KATRINA FISK

Today’s Instagrammer is Katrina Fisk. I was lucky enough to meet Katrina while I was at the Melbourne Craft & Quilt Fair. It was great to put a real person to the online person and have a laugh with someone who shares my crazy love of quilting. Not to mention she’s also a topper – just like me!

1. How did you come to be a quilter?

When my youngest was about 18 months old, I needed a hobby. It was a toss up between patchwork and folk art painting. As I have a sewing background (my mother is a professional wedding seamstress) I chose patchwork. I am sooooooooo glad I did.

2.What is it that you love about being a quilter?

I love starting projects. I love the cutting up of fabric only to sew it all back together again (a process my husband can’t fathom) I love all the gadgets that you get to buy just in case you might use them one day. A girl can never have to many rulers and templates. I love sending my top off (my quilt top that is) to get quilted and getting it back and absolutely loving it sick. I love all the friends I have met through quilting. We really are a nice bunch of people.

3.What’s your 3 favourite quilts that you’ve made that reflect who you are as a quilter?

In winter, my favourite quilt is my flannel one. That reflects that I like to be warm. I am in the process of a hand pieced hexagon quilt. That reflects that I am a patient person (or slightly crazy) they’re 1/2″. My other favourite quilt(s) are all the ones that I have started (or want too) and that reflects that I need to get off my ass and finish them.

 

A Bit of Fun:

If you could only have one or the other for the rest of eternity what would you choose?

1.Fabric: Solid or Pattern? Pattern but I’m hoping to incorporate solids in the Sea Breeze Mini.

2.Quilt Styles: Pattern or Improv? Pattern but I’m trying my hand at improv.

3.Seams: Open or to the Side? I always press to the Dark Side.

4.Stitching: Hand or Machine? Both. Depends on what the pattern calls for.

5.Binding: Hand or Machine? Both. I sew on by machine and slip stitch down by hand.

6.Food: Sweet or Savoury? Both. Start with Savoury, finish with sweet. I’m fine to go without Main.

7.Entertainment: Books or Music? Music. Favourite genre – 70’s.

8.Entertainment: Television or Movies? Movies. Unless it’s Game of Thrones. Always Game of Thrones.

9.Computer: Mac or Windows? Mac

10.Drink: Coke or Pepsi? Coke. But I prefer wine. Or scotch.
