MEET MICHELE & DEB

Today’s blogger and Instagrammer are Michelle and Deb. Both of these ladies have definite points of view when it comes to their work and they aren’t afraid to use bold colours and patterns (which I love!).

I’m really excited about the mini’s that these two are making and I hope you enjoy reading a little bit more about them before heading to Instagram and Deb’s blog to check them out.

1. How did you come to be a quilter?

I began hand quilting as a young girl, around 9 years old. My mom traced elaborate designs on whole cloth, and she hand quilted these on a large whole room wooden frame that my dad made. The frame made a perfect fort for kids to play under. The quilts were always backed with inexpensive cotton sheets and most were gifted away and donated for fundraisers. My paternal grandmother, Georgia, taught my mom these skills; she’s the “George” in “chelengeorge”. After a long college and grad school quilting hiatus I taught myself how to machine piece in 1999 while pregnant with my first child.

2. What is it that you love about being a quilter?

I love that quilting is creative AND practical. I love color and math – perfect marriage. I love the designing, planning, learning, and adore making things for others. I love the generosity of the quilting world and am inspired by all of the talent in our community!!

3. Whatโ€™s your 3 favourite quilts that youโ€™ve made that reflect who you are as a quilter?

I can’t pick just 3 favorites!! With every quilt/project there are aspects that I love and some things I would probably change. That probably says something about who I am as a quilter, always trying to learning something new and looking forward to the next project!!

1. How did you come to be a quilter?

I have always sewn off and on over the years. I can remember making my own clothes when I was 12 and loving the process. My mother bought me my first machine when I was 16 and I was inseparable from it. I was an avid cross stitcher as well, but after a change in life circumstances 9 years ago I didn’t really enjoy cross stitch any more. I then didn’t really touch any handcrafts for a few years. I started quilting about 4 years ago when I went to a local craft fair and saw a quilt exhibition there. It whet my appetite to start creating again. I bought a kit for a Christmas wall hanging and that was that…I was hooked! I loved the process but wasn’t too fussed on the offerings in quilt stores locally, so I got online and discovered an amazing array of blogs, online stores, and inspiration. I knew then that I had found a new hobby.

2. What is it that you love about being a quilter?

There’s something soothing, and yet exciting, about playing with fabric, about creating something from nothing, about seeing something come to life. I love the friendships and sense of camaraderie that quilting brings. I love the way it is my de-stressor, but most of all I love seeing the sense of comfort a quilt can bring to someone, whether it be just for warmth or because it has special meaning

3. Whatโ€™s your 3 favourite quilts that youโ€™ve made that reflect who you are as a quilter?

This quilt was made over the course of 9 months as part of the City Sampler QAL. I just love the colours, and it has so many of my favourite fabrics in it.

My wonky stars quilt as this was my first attempt at trying to break out of my ordered Type A personality and as you can see I didn’t do so well, as my wonky stars aren’t very wonky! Having said that, I think I realised that I love low volume and colour together.

My AMH Patchwork Prism mini as I again love the colour and the scrappiness, but it has a sense of cohesion to it as well.

And one more cos it was too hard to pick 3! Love this pillow. The colours just sing to me and I love the fussy cut centres.

  1. Penis pumps are devices that include a tube into which you place your put up penis. As soon as you have done that, you begin to use a pump that comes along with the tube to produce a vacuum form of impact. Just what this does is that it forces blood into the penis.
