Meet Kelly

1. How did you come to be a quilter?

Nearly 5 years ago when pregnant I decided I wanted to make a baby quilt. I jumped on the โ€˜net and found a pattern. Bought some fabric from the US and made it. I made a few quilts without really knowing what I was doing. Then I found the Missouri Star Quilt Company You tubes and I was amazed. I was a big fan of the quick techniques that Jenny used and picked up a lot of tips that I still use today.

2. What is it that you love about being a quilter?

I love being interactive within the quilty community I love that I have found people that โ€œgetโ€ me I have some wonderful friends but they just donโ€™t understand my addiction for sewing quilts; I am a big fan of creating functional things. I also love seeing the amazing quilts everyone else creates.

3. Whatโ€™s your 3 favourite quilts that youโ€™ve made that reflect who you are as a quilter?

My favourite quilt is a free tutorial I did for Riley Blakeโ€™s Cutting Corners just recently itโ€™s a a hexi and I thought was pretty clever.

Meet Gillian

1. How did you come to be a quilter?

Around 5 years ago I began to buy quilting magazines as I had noticed Kellie Wulfsohnโ€™s gorgeous appliquรฉ quilts featuring in a few of the magazines. I really didnโ€™t like traditional quilts and these caught my eye for being so fresh and different from the norm. Of course I didnโ€™t actually make any. Then Homespun Magazine ran a competition โ€˜Search for a Craft Starโ€™, so I decided to design a quilt and enter the comp. I have sewn for many years but never made a quilt before, but thought how hard can it be? Lol. Trickier than I imagined! I did finish it and my Kokeshi Doll quilt won the Amateur category and was featured in the October 2011 issue of the magazine.

2. What do you love about being a quilter?

What I love the most is that I have made crafty friends both online and now in person through this love of quilting. I love how a quilt is art translated through fabric and thread.

3. What are your favourite quilts you have made that reflect who you are as a quilter?

Well i have actually only made 2 quilts so obviously they would be my faves. My Kokeshi Doll Quilt that I mentioned above and my Rocket to the Stars quilt that featured in the October 2012 issue of Homespun magazine.
