SENDING PATCHWORK SUNSHINE THROUGH THE POST

I sent my Little Quilts Swap package off to my partner this week and I’m so excited, nervous and anxious to know if they like it or not. This is the first mini quilt I’ve ever given to someone else and I’m both thrilled and packing my pants about it all.
I ended up going with a really simple quilting pattern on this one because I wanted the fabrics and pattern to really be the focus and also because I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to quilting so I didn’t want to ruin my patchwork with my quilting.

Some what ironically the day that I finished the mini and tried to get photos it was bucketing down with rain (and accompanied with thunder and lighting) and so my photos are plagued with shadows. Oh well…
As you can (hopefully see) I just went with simple line quilting to try and accentuate the blades of the dresden. ย I used Aurifil #4663 (50wt) which is a variegated blue thread for the background and binding. I want it to just add a subtle line in the quilt and not compete with the background.

I used a rainbow stripe (which is fabric I had left over from binding on “Samuel’s Technicolour Yawn“) on the back because I thought it was a happy fabric. My partner said that her sewing room was her happy place and so I wanted to make her a mini that would bring her happiness when she looked at it and I’m hopeful that’s what I’ve achieved.
My parcel from my swap partner arrived yesterday and in an awesome twist of fate my partner was Anorina (of Samelia’s Mum) who I only just met last month!

How awesome was this parcel of quilting goodness! I’m so thrilled and touched and honoured to have a quilt by Anorina in my collection now. It’s just perfect. I’m also crushing on the perfect-for-fussy-cutting fabric she included and the owl needle book (which is proving very popular and if you’d like to go into a needle book swap next year, be sure to check out Anorina’s Facebook page!).
I’ve had such fun with this swap and I can’t wait to see when my partner gets their package (hopefully before Christmas). I’m totally going to be participating and running more swaps in 2015!

Wow! This is a great quilt!! I must have missed your original IG post. As soon as I learn how to PIn from my phone, I’m adding it to my inspiration board. It’s just gorgeous!!
Oh, what a cute mini! I love it. The quilting suits it well. I just finished quilting my latest quilt with organic straight lines. Well… I think I like it less now that I quilted it, so I absolutely know what you mean about not wanting to ruin patchwork with quilting. I hope I get beyond that someday and you too! I’m sure we will if we press on.
I love your beautifully made and finished flower quilt. I recently bought a dresden template but not used it yet. The quilt you received is also lovely ๐
Can I be your partner please? ๐
I love your mini and I’m sure your partner will, too!
So lovely and I adore the fussy cutting of the bee fabric for the centre of the flower. I keep checking my letterbox, but it hasn’t arrived yet!? lol … I sent mine off last week … waiting, waiting, waiting to see if my partner liked it? I hope so. They are private on IG, so unless they tag me, I’m not sure how I would know? Hope you have a good weekend ๐
It’s beautiful, Angie! I love all the picture placement within the flower (that bee!!) and the selvedge print for the pot is a winner. I think you’ve definitely achieved your aim of a happy piece, I’m sure she’ll love it!
