3 WORDS TO SHAPE ME IN 2015

This year I’m going to be all about the learning, improving and conquering when it comes to my creative endeavours. 2014 was such a whirlwind year as far as my productivity and learning that in 2015 I’m hoping to build on that in a more controlled way. So, what’s on my learn, improve and conquer list?

Learn

I was so blessed in 2014 to have a few of my patterns produced and published via magazines, in 2015 I’d like to take a little more control over this process and learn the in’s and out’s of pattern design and production. I know I’m not alone with this, so I promise I’ll share whatever I learn and together we can take over the world.

I’ve started thinking more about the colours and patterns available and I’d love to start working towards making my own fabric designs and dyeing to find the colours I want. I’m not sure how realistic it is, but I’m hoping to at least have a go at it and have some fun.

Improve

Curves are still something that scare me, but not in 2015. I’m going to concentrate on learning to dominate when it comes to the curve. I have a couple of projects in mind that will help me improve this technique, I just need to muster up the courage to get them done.

Applique is something that I love and I’d really like to spend more time in 2015 practicing this technique. There’s so many amazing things that can be done with this technique and I’d really like to produce my own Hawaiian style quilt.

Paper Piecing was the bane of my existence in 2014, but I’m determined to bend it to my will in 2015. I have a few quilt patterns and gifts I’d like to make that require me to make peace with paper piecing. Late in 2014 I heard about a technique for using freezer paper to help with paper piecing and I’m keen to give that a try (and write a tutorial). I’m also thinking about other methods for printing the pattern and removing the papers. I see a lot of experimenting in my future.

Conquer

This ties in a little with my first learning task, but I’m determined to conquer EQ7 this year. I’m convinced it would make things a lot easier when it comes to pattern designing and working out how I’m going to approach projects.

2015 is going to be all about getting my accuracy under control. I learned a lot in 2014 about construction and where I was going a little pear shaped when it came to seam allowance, cutting and construction choices. I’m going to spend time learning and researching techniques for how to improve my accuracy – I am convinced that there’s better ways to get a more accurate finish when it comes to my patchwork.
