Link Love: A little mix of fabulous
Something really exciting happened in our house this week… we booked our flights to America! I know, I still can’t believe it either. We’re off to Los Angeles and then Houston in October, just in time to head to Quilt Market and the International Quilt Show. I’m so excited and a little nervous and a little still can’t believe it. We’re going to be America for Halloween and I have to be honest, I’m not sure what I’m more excited about Halloween or all the quilts!
We’ve booked in the compulsory trip to Disneyland, which has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager. I just want to ride the tea cups! We’re going to be staying at Disneyland and so I’m already warning HUBBY that I’m going to be skipping and singing all the zippy-ee-dee-do-dah day. We’ve got just over a week in L.A. and I’m planning to squeeze in as much as possible. I have a long list of things I want to see including Venice Beach and the canals, Beverly Hills, Kim Kardashian and I want to dance with Ellen. (Ok, so I might have been joking about good ole’ KK.)
We’re going to be catching the train from L.A. to Houston and I think I’m already super excited about it. I love just sitting and watching the countryside go by and this will give us a good taste of it. I’m planning a trip to Voodoo Donuts, Waco (need to see Chip and Joanna!), the place that has the 3 pound cinnamon bun and lots more. We’ve got just over a week in Texas and I plan to do some boot scooting, cow tipping, y’all have a good day fun. (Ok, again, not going to be tipping cows – that’s just cruel, but you get the picture!)
On top of all of that, I’m really stoked to finally be able to meet the amazing people on the other side of the screen. I never thought I would make it to America and now we’re all going over there as a family and I’m really excited (did I say that already?). So, if you’re going to be in Houston let me know and we’ll try and meet up! If you’ve got must-do’s for me to add to my Santa size list of things I’m going to be cramming into those 3 weeks, let me know. If you want to try and squeeze into my suitcase and come with me – let me know!
For now, I’m going back to binge watching American television so I can get my accent down. Hope you have a super exciting day!

COMMUNITY CORK BOARD
- The Maldon Combined Quilters in the historic National Trust classified town of Maldon, Victoria, are holding their biannual Quilt Show on 26 & 27 March, 2016 as part of the Maldon Easter Fair. They’re expecting it to be a bumper show with a diverse range of 50+ quilts, including designs such as Mrs Billings, Briar Hill, some beautiful Di Ford patterns, and other hand and machine pieced traditional, reproduction and contemporary works. - Canberra Quilters Inc. are celebrating their 40th Anniversary in 2016 and to mark the occasion they’re holding a “Celebrate 40 Challenge”. It’s open to Australian and New Zealand Residents, with 40 quilts (quilts must be 40cm x 100cm) being selected to hang at the 2016 Annual Member’s Exhibition. if you can find a copy of the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disneyland, it’s worth the money (as well as the add on Touringplans.com subscription). it will help your make the most of your time and minimize your time waiting in lines. Also, if you can go to Magnolia Market on a weekday, you won’t have to wait in the same long line to get into the store. I live an hour away, so I’ve been several times with out of town guests, and the Saturday afternoon wait the last time was two hours. Enjoy your trip!
Angie, welcome to my “home” of Southern California. If you have the time during your week here, the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park are beautiful. It takes just over 2 hours to get down here from LA. You could spend a full day in each one and barely see everything; especially if you try to make all the shows.
I don’t know if it’s still true, but the Zoo used to advertise that they were the world’s largest. The Wild Animal Park has big open areas where the animals all live together, and you ride around the outside to see them while the guide talks about them.
Also, we are known for our excellent Mexican food and fresh seafood. There’s nothing better than watching the sunset while sitting in a beach side restaurant.

Oh please speak in your usual speech we USA ers as a group love love your accent. I know it is expensive to stay on the Disney property but it allows you to spend so much more time at the parks. We start out early then when we get tired and hungry we go back to our rooms eat and nap then go back to the parks that way we feel like we get two days everyday. I don’t know which place you are staying but we paid extra to have the consarage room privlages so we had would start there each AM and take food with us and water and at the end of the day wine and beer and they had so many tips
Oh gosh, I would never do an accent to anyone other than HUBBY (cause he promised in front of a large group of people that he’d stick with me for life so he gets to hear my annoying little amusements). I’m looking forward to having a different accent to everyone else. Nothing like being unusual for awhile.
We’re staying at the Disneyland Hotel and we’ve opted for the Club Level. I did a bit of reading and it’s like you say, worth it for the extra services and being able to stock up before you head into the parks. We’re planning to do the same and break it into 2 sessions per day. It’s going to be interesting to see how we all hold up as Disneyland is our first stop after our 20 hour flight!
