Link Love: Extra Long Colon
Dang, that was a big week. I had my much anticipated (not really!) colonoscopy. It went perfectly and they’ve confirmed a diagnosis of diverticular disease. But on the upside, it’s all under control and there’s nothing else wrong with my bowel. My treating surgeon has recommended a follow up colonoscopy in 5 years time based on family history and doesn’t want to see me again until then, which is fabulous. I’ve made the decision to change treating surgeon’s for my hysterectomy so there’s been some fall out because of that, but I’m feeling mighty smug with myself because for once in my life I stood up for myself and said “No, thank you” when I wanted to.
I must confess that I wouldn’t refer to myself as a push-over but there’s been a number of times where I’ve found myself doing things that I know I actually don’t want to do out of a false sense of peace-making and not rocking the boat. Well, in the past week I’ve politely and respectfully spoken up for myself and it’s been so liberating. I seriously felt like I had achieved greatness after saying “no, that’s not what I want”. It’s amazing how something so seemingly simple can be huge for the mental game.
At this point in time I’m not sure where I’m at with my hysterectomy. I’m waiting on one surgeon to get back to me, but I’ve got an appointment with another lined up in case things don’t work out. I feel really good about it because I feel like I’m back in control of it all. I’d like to hope that I might be able to have the surgery before the end of the year, but I’m not confident it’ll happen like that. Whatever happens I’ve made the decision that I’m going to get the business back up and running properly again instead of operating in some weird sort of limbo while I wait out this whole situation.
In news not health related, I convinced Raylee and I to enter the Queanbeyan Show on a bit of a lark and we had fabulous results. I entered my Gypsy Wife quilt and it took out First Place in Decorative Wallhanging and won Show Champion for the Patchwork, Applique and Quilting section. I had no idea that it had won and so when I walked in and saw it with it’s sash hanging in the show pavilion I got a little choked up. Which seems so ridiculous really in the scheme of things, but I think after the week I’d had and the fact that my family has a running joke between us about winning at agricultural shows it was all a little much for me. Lucky for me The Kid (as he now wants me to refer to him) kept it real… while standing in front of the quilt, me trying to keep my composure, he turns to me and says “Mum, do we have to look at your quilt? I can see it at home, I want to go on the bumper cars.” And just like that reality snapped me back and we went to ride bumper cars. (Which was so much fun! Who knew being chased around by a manically laughing 6yo in a bumper car would be so good for the soul!)
Right, so that was my week. This week I’m working on something I’m loving, which I’ll share more about with you next week and running to appointments. Yay me! *wink* Wishing you a week filled with love, laughter and much fabric fondling!
