Aussie Aurifil Club May Blogger Bundle Reveal

May is my birthday month (so you’d better have the cake ready!) and so it’s a fabulous treat to also have May as my month in the Aussie Aurifil Club. I’m so thrilled and honoured that Melissa (of Ms Midge) asked me to be the blogger to launch her amazing Aussie Aurifil Club (no pressure!).
Do you know the pressure of having to choose just 4 colours from the amazing 270 colours currently available from Aurifil? No, well I do and I can tell you it’s a lot!

I sat and stared at that colour card for so long I thought my eyes were going to start bleeding. In the end I chose (L-R)ย #4030 – Pomegranateย #2510, #1100 – Red Plum, #2530 – Blossom Pink and #2510 – Light Lilac and I’m in love with them.
When I was first asked to curate the bundle I thought I would go for blues and greens because they remind me of home and of summer, but in the end I went with the colours that I’m drawn to most when I fabric shop and hold the largest portion of my stash; pinks and purples.
In the past 6 months I have used #2510 – Light Lilac on at least 2 (probably 3) quilts when I’ve had them quilted by Gemma (of Pretty Bobbins). Without a doubt every time I go in to drop a quilt off we talk about using #2510 – Light Lilac. It’s such a soft and delicate colour and makes a nice substitute for using a light grey. (It was used in the quilting on Centre of the Universe, click here to see the quilt.) It just disappears into the quilt but adds a nice subtle touch of colour.
I went with some punchier darker colours for the rest of the bundle because I wanted to be able to use the thread for some piecing work I’m currently doing (#2530 – Blossom Pink is just perfect for my version of Smitten that I’m currently working on) and because I want to quilt an upcoming quilt with something a little bolder than I normally go for. (I’m all about getting out of my comfort zone and growing at the moment!).

I chose my bundle in 50wt because it’s my go-to thread for patchwork piecing and quilting. It’s a great weight to thread because it’s a bit thinner and so if you have issues with accuracy it’s a great way to get those quarter inch seams a little thinner. (I pair my 50wt thread with a 70/10 machine needle as well.)
If you love these colours you might want to rush and join the The Handmadeย by Emily Kona Club because I’m Emily‘s May Blogger Bundle curator and you can pretty much guarantee that I’ve selected my Aussie Aurifil Club threads to complete my Robert Kaufman Kona Bundle.
So now I’ve taunted you with the colours I selected for theย Aussie Aurifil Clubย I’m sure you’re wanting to know how you can get in on this action. Theย Aussie Aurifil Clubย has subscription packages of 3 and 6 months and you can get them inย a combination of spool and weight sizes which means there’s a bundle to suit everyone.
