CRAFTY | ZOMBIE BEAR PAR

Is it just me or does the end of the year seem to gather such momentum and fly past?  September was supposed to be my month of finishing and instead I just seemed to take on more than I could ever hope to finish.

We’ve just had a long weekend and instead of using it to finish sewing projects I used it to give the shop (Green Tangerine Quilts) a make over.  Talk about a mix of priorities (well, actually seen-as-though I hope to fund a fabric habit from the shop it’s probably a good thing that I focused on getting it in order!).

I have been slowly (emphasis on the slow) working away at my Halloween quilt which I’m affectionately calling my Zombie Bear Paw.

At the Canberra Quilt and Craft Expo I managed to fins a whole stash of Halloween fabrics at one of the stalls and I think I purchased one of nearly everything they had. I already had some fabrics from a find at Spotlight but I really wanted to be able to make every block in the quilt a different fabric.

I found an online pattern for making a bear paw quilt (you can find it here) and from there I’ve just been winging it.

I’ve been using the Sizzix 2.5″ HST die cut to make the triangle blocks – which has been good and it’s been bad.  It’s been good for my point accuracy and consistency of block size, it’s been not so good because it’s not the size of the HST in the pattern.  Hence why I’ve been winging it.

I plan to make it a 5 x 5 quilt so it’s going to be on the large side of things (but who doesn’t love a big quilt to hide under when you’re worried about the Boogey Man coming to get you!).  I’m loving seeing the block come together, it’s just that I’ve also been loving working on my Midnight at the Oasis so that’s been stealing my time away from this project.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do for the sashing between the block I’m toying with just going plain all the way, but I’m also thinking of putting a little accent square in between the blocks. Who knows.

I’m also not completely sure what I’m going to do for the edges either… I have a couple of ideas floating around but it will rely on how much Halloween fabric I have left over at the end I guess.

So many delicious variables.  I really need to get back on to this project and get it off to be quilted so that we can start using it.

There’s so many wonderful things out there in the world of quilting – enough to keep me busy for 2 lifetimes.  Maybe I’ll come back as a quilting ghost…
