The first block pattern in the Fat Quarter Shop Crossroad’s Quilt-along benefiting March of Dimes has been released and it’s the House Block. I’m going with a bit of a darker version of this quilt than the original. I have a bit of a grand plan and I’m not sure it’s going to work, but in true gnome style I’m winging it and hoping for the best.

I’m using Kona Ash for my background fabric. I didn’t want to go with a colour that white would bleed into, but I also didn’t want to go too in your face dark. I’ve made my houses using (top to bottom) Jennifer Sampou’s Black & White Charcoal Fishnet Butterflies, Vintage Made Modern’s Tools of the Trade in Black, Downton Abbey’s The Dowager’s Lace in Black, and Downton Abbey’s Downton Flourish in Black. I love how much of an impact the black makes and just making these four blocks has got me so excited for how the rest of the quilt will look.

I was really surprised at how quickly these blocks came together and I loved doing something so traditional. I’m getting rather impatient to join them to the other blocks in the series. (Shame I still have to make them!)
