DECEMBER FLASHBACK

Tis the season to be jolly and it’s also a time to reflect back on the year and what it’s held. This year has been amazing and filled with the most fabulous people and opportunities.

I never would have thought when I started this year that I’d be ending it so much closer to my little family living the life we dream.

On January 12 I made the decision to remove a lot of the personal content off my site. It was a tough decision, I had shared so much of our life and our journey with IVF and I loved the bond that it created with people. But my family is my number one priority and so I made the decision to protect them by keeping some things private.

Stepping back from the blog provided me just the refresher I needed to help me focus my priorities and to start to appreciate again the things that bring me joy.

In June I decided to throw myself back into the blog and take it in a new direction and try to turn it into the place that I’d dreamed it could be. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I have had such a great year in relation to the blog. I’ve learned so much, grown in ways I didn’t think possible and made some wonderful new friends. It’s been a blast!

This year I’ve tried to share more about my quilting and about how I approach achieving my goals and dreams. I’m always so nervous about opening up about how I think about my quilting and my place in this wonderful creative community, but towards the end of this year I started to open up a little more and share more.

Some of my best posts have been:

Why do I show my quilts in the Canberra Quilters Annual Exhibition?

My thoughts on being voted off Sewvivor

Want to know how I came to be a quilter?

Want some tips for overcoming the 5 mistakes people make when goal setting?

Answering the age old question, am I a modern quilter?

Despite how nervous these posts make me I’m so glad I have shared them because they’ve allowed me to really connect and make some fabulous friendships. It’s the thing that I love about being a part of this amazing community; there’s always someone out there that has been, or is in, your position.

I’ve worked really hard this year on improving the content of my blog, the images I’m sharing and the things that I’m creating. It’s been so much work, but it’s been so much fun and has been the most rewarding work I’ve done in a long time. I’ve learned so much and I’m so excited about what the future will bring.

  1. Congratulations on your growth and metamorphosis as a blogger this year. Great idea to do a Dec flashback. I’ll enjoy reading some of these that I missed. I’m glad I got to know you this year. I hadn’t realized about your IVF journey, since we met on quilting terms. Having had some troubles conceiving this year (not same scale, I know, but it was awful to go through all the same) I can relate with how momentous that experience must have been. Good for you that you found a way to continue connecting that’s right for your family and right for you.
