Link Love: To all the Men I Love

A highlight reel of what's going on in my life and a collection of useful links and information for the creatives amongst us - Angie Wilson at www.gnomeangel.com

Yesterday was Father’s Day and I was in Sydney, my Dad was in Townsville and HUBBY was back in Canberra. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the men in my life and how lucky I am. I grew up with a strong male role model who encouraged me to do what I love and gave me a solid foundation. I’m a lot like my Father and I love that. I adore my Dad and I know that I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for the example he provided, the wisdom he shared, the lessons he taught me and the love he gave me unconditionally. It hasn’t always been a smooth relationship, but even in the hard times I knew without a doubt that he loves me.

When I’m in a really bad place mentally, he’s the one I seek out. I know that he’ll tell me, no holds barred, if I need to pull my head out of my butt or if I’m being too hard on myself. At times his straight shooting has been hard to handle, but I know that it’s always coming from a place of love. He talks a good game about being tough but I know that he cares deeply about his family and when it comes to us he’s actually a big marshmallow.

Since having my own child I’ve come to appreciate more and more all the things he sacrificed to give my Brother and I the stable and loving family home that we just took for granted as kid’s do. Sure, he had my Mother (who I’ll never fully be able to thank for all the things she’s done for me) to support him, encourage him, keep him in line and take away some of his troubles – but I think he still wore a lot of the pressure of being the man of the house.

I also know that because of him (and my Mum) I’m lucky to have a Husband who respects me, loves me and is an amazing Father. When it came to finding a partner I had the example of the kind of man I would need and want in my life and I hit the jackpot with HUBBY. I swear, I don’t know how he lives with me at the best of times. This year has been a particularly difficult one where I’m concerned so I’m even more in awe of the fact that he’s still here.

I am really blessed to have found a man that’s strong enough to be a true partner; he cooks, he cleans, he raises his son, he provides for his family – he is active in our marriage and family. He’s the kind of man that I hope our son grows up to be. He’s respectful and courteous. He speaks with kindness and still manages to keep me grounded through humour.  I can’t imagine the pressure he’s under at the moment being the sole provider for our family. I worry and I stress about it, but he’s just so laid back and takes it all in his stride.

While these amazing men and I weren’t together yesterday they were never very far from my thoughts – which is just like every day! I hope that you all have fabulous men in your lives whether as Father’s, Uncles, Brothers, Sons or friends. If you do I hope you take a moment to tell them just how much they mean to you and how thankful you are to have them in your life.

In the meantime, I’m going to dry my eyes and get on with the day. I have quilts to make, cupcakes to bake and a four year old to smother in hugs and kisses. I hope you have a fabulously creative day!
