MEET THE QUILTING MILL
7. Who’s the quilter(s) that inspire you at the moment?
Right now my biggest quilting inspiration is Karlee Porter. She does AMAZING work and has a book coming out in October about her technique that she calls Graffiti Quilting. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I’m lucky enough to live only about a 10 minute drive away from her so I’ve gotten to know her a little bit so far, and I’m excited to learn more from her. Seriously, run and check out her stuff. So cool.
8. What quilting challenges would you like to conquer in the next 12 months.
I’m working on my backtracking when I’m quilting. I’d really like to improve that.
9. What’s your 3 favourite quilts that you’ve made that reflect who you are as a quilter?
When I first joined the MQG it was a couple of months before our Salt Lake City chapter hosted the EZ Dresden blog hop. I created a method for the blog hop using the ruler that I call the “Dresden Wave” that uses parallelograms and the Dresden wedge shape to create a wavy pattern. I’ve made four quilts using this method so far and I’m working on my fifth one right now that looks like bacon. There will be a quilt along in time for Christmas, for all of you with men in your lives who adore bacon. I have been especially happy with all of these quilts because they are totally unique from anything I’ve ever seen anyone do.

10. If you weren’t a quilter, what other creative endeavour would you like to master?
I really want to learn how to do stained glass. I kind of have a dream that someday when we build our own home that I want to make a couple of geometric stained glass windows to go in it. I doubt I will have time to add another hobby, but I’d sure love to try it out. The design part is a lot like quilting, I’d imagine, but with a stiffer medium.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with my readers?
We’re tall around here. I’m 6’3” and my husband is 6’7”. The kids are shaping up to be giants as well. We love it!

Wowee, what eye candy! I’m always in awe of people who can quilt like this – it’s just amazing.
And the bacon quilt – that there is a work of art. The men of the world salute you, Barbie!
