Brother Australia are set to announce the winner of their #BrotherInspires competition very shortly and first prize is an inspirational sewing space valued at more than AU$12,000. That’s pretty amazing! Brother Australia have partnered with Briar Stanley of Sunday Collector to help the winner create the space of their dreams. Brother Australia know how much I love sharing the work of amazing creatives and so they asked me if I would love to share the story behind Sunday Collector and I jumped at the chance.
If you’re a sucker for a well styled photo and peaking into some amazing homes like I am then Sunday Collector is for you. Briar has an eye for detail and attention to the finer things that makes me weak in the knees. Sunday Collector is definitely a blog that will cause a supreme case of lust and envy so viewer discretion is recommended. I hope you enjoy getting to know Briar a bit more like I have.
What’s your creative story so far?
My name is Briar Stanley, I’m an interior decorator and lifestyle blogger. Also a wife and Mum to a nearly three year old, Sunday. On reflection, I’ve always been interested in interiors. As a kid, I loved nothing more than moving everything around in my room. I was always wanting to paint my furniture and purchase new bed linen. I was also forever trawling Antique shops with my Mum who is also a keen collector. As an adult, I spent 8 years as in set decorating as a props buyer and set dresser in the film and television industry and made the natural transition in to working with private clients on residential projects after finishing maternity leave.

What is it that you love about being creative?
I don’t really know any different, so it’s just life to me. My Mum enrolled me in afternoon art classes from the age of 7, and I lived and breathed creative subjects all through high school. I’ve never had a standard office job. I love how my creativity has given me the opportunity to earn money from a hobby – work honestly doesn’t feel like work for me.
What fuels your creative passion?
My love for good interiors, and making my clients happy.
What gives you the most joy from being creative?
It would have to be living in my home, surrounded by things that I love. I still smile when I walk in to my apartment on a sunny day. The fact that I can come home when it’s still sunny brings me joy too – I love working my own hours, and my career choice allows me to do this.

What are you most proud of from your creative journey?
To date, it would have to be working on the film, The Great Gatsby as a Senior Props Buyer/Set Stylist. I also have a few big interiors projects coming up that I plan to be very proud of, on completion.
What’s the one piece of advice about being creative that you wish all people knew?
It’s getting better, but some people assume a creative will work for next to nothing, or for free. Sometimes I feel like saying, “We have mortgages to pay and mouths to feed, too”.
We all love finding new creative people to get inspired by, who are some of your favourites at the moment?
It’s always changing, but I alsways love the work by Australian interior designers Fiona Lynch and Arent & Pyke.

What creative challenges would you like to conquer in the next 12 months?
I’ve got a 6 bedroom, 7 bathroom waterfront ‘mega’ house coming up – so that will be my focus, and I certainly hope to conquer it successfully!
What are your 3 favourite creative projects that you’ve done that reflect who you are as a creator?
I’m pretty proud of my blog Sunday Collector (that has been an ongoing project over 5 years), it’s an outlet where I talk about my daily travels in interiors, sharing DIY ideas for craft/entertaining and recipes. I also love my daughter’s bedroom, and I’m also pretty proud of our recent kitchen renovation.
If you weren’t doing what you do now, what other creative endeavour would you like to master?
I’d love to train to be a floral designer or a landscape architect. There’s still time left!
