Quilt Reveal: Summer Locket for Art Gallery Fabrics & Fat Quarter Shop

I’m sneaking back in from my holiday to share with you one of the last finishes for the year; Summer Locket. Fat Quarter Shop has partnered with Art Gallery Fabrics to celebrate the release of Amy Sinibaldi’s Paperie with this fabulous free pattern called Locket. Art Gallery generously allowed me to pick any fabrics I would like to make my own version of this great pattern and I couldn’t go past Katarina Roccella’s Skopelos for my inspiration.
I wanted to play in primarily solids and so I chose colours from Skopelos Crimson Paparounes (which I backed the quilt in) for my palette:
- Pure Element Solid in Mystic Grey
- Pure Element Solid in Cozumel Blue
- Pure Element Solid in Raspberry Rose
- Pure Element Solid in Coral Reef
I love how these colour pop together. It’s like neon pastel. It’s amazing. When the fabric arrived it was like a big package of summer. Which given that we’re in the middle of a particularly hot Australian summer it seemed quite fitting. This quilt had me dreaming of a seaside holiday. But being in landlocked Canberra I had to make do with a trip to the lake…

I’ve used Kladi Under Shadow for the centre of the pattern, just to give it some interest and contrast with the solids. I’ve then bound it in Greeka Skouro which makes a nice change from the bright solids and the subtle pattern provides a lovely detail when folded.

The quilt was quilted in an edge-to-edge pattern by Linda at 5 Spot Designs. I chose this bubble pattern to provide some curvy contrast to the sharp lines of the geometric quilt pattern. I’m in love with it; I love a really dense quilting pattern. It’s quilted with Aurifil 50wt #2615 (Aluminium).
