SEWVIVOR – GNOMEANGEL – ANGIE WILSON

I’m a huge reality television fan when that reality television involves some sort of competition. My all time favourite reality television shows are Top Chef, Project Runway, The Great British Sewing Bee, The Great British Bake Off and Survivor.

It’s no surprise then that when Sarah Fielke posted on Instagram that Rach from Family Ever After was running a quilting version of Survivor I got so excited that a little bit of wee escaped.

So, in the spirit of all those that have gone before me in the world of reality television I present to you the reasons why I should be the next Sewvivor.

ย My Audition Quilt

The Feather Beast Slayed by Angie Wilson at GnomeAngel.com

My audition quilt is the quilt that changed my life: The Feather Beast; Slayed. I made this quilt top in 2013. The quilt was made using the following pattern: Anna Maria Horner Feather Bed Quilt.

This quilt was only the fourth quilt top I had ever made. I was so under prepared for the work involved or the amount of fabric it would take to make this quilt.

I entrusted this beast of a quilt to Raylee Bielenberg of Sunflower Quilting. Raylee custom quilted this using her A1 Long Arm.

I entered this quilt in the Canberra Quilters Annual Exhibition in 2013 and was blown away with how well it performed.

I really struggled during the making of this quilt. It was a new technique, I’d only been really sewing for about 6 months and I had no idea what I was doing.

It broke me down and made me doubt myself in ways I hadn’t quite realized until after it was hanging in the Exhibition.

This quilt represents a few crucial quilting lessons that I needed to learn to progress in my quilting journey.ย  My life has not been the same since making this quilt.

This quilt taught me that I am a quilter, quilting is one of my biggest passions in life and I’m proud of that. My quilting journey is just starting and I’m so excited about all the possibilities that it holds.

    1. I’ve been binge watching Top Chef lately – started back at Season 1. I don’t know what it is but I can’t get enough. I’ve also been watching the US Masterchef – so different from our version, way more aggressive in the competition. We’re definitely going to have to visit the US! ๐Ÿ™‚
