“Cute as a Button Pincushion” is the latest video tutorial from Fat Quarter Shop and it features the fabulous and lovely Sherri McConnell from A Quilting Life showing us all how to make this super cute and easy pincushion. To help celebrate the release of the Cute as a Button Pincushion video tutorial Fat Quarter Shop asked me if I would like to make and share my version of this great sewing companion. (Pincushions are like the pet rocks of the sewing world, right?)

When Fat Quarter Shop asked me to be a part of the promotion for the Cute as a Button Pincushion I jumped at the chance. It’s just so much fun and it’s a great excuse to use some embellishments! I went with a really simple fabric choice for this pincushion because I made it for a quilting idol of mine. We both share a love of Sketch by Timeless Treasure and Pearl Bracelet by Lizzy House for Andover fabrics. So I did a simple rainbow in Sketch and teamed it with the tone-on-tone white Pearl Bracelet. Simple and effective. I teamed it with some measuring tape twill ribbon that I had hiding in the stash. But I think the real punch of fun comes from the backing fabric. 

The recipient of this pincushion loves a good bit of Star Wars and so I couldn’t resist. This is some of my favourite fabric and it’s perfect for the back. (Hello Han!) I filled my pincushion with shell grit. It’s a new product for me and it’s good and heavy, I hope it will wear well over time. I also lined the backing fabric with Pellen as well as the front to protect it a little from the shell grit.
