{SPONSORED} Fat Quarter Shop Birchen Quilt

I’m a sucker for a good half square triangle (HST) block and when Fat Quarter Shop asked me to make the Birchen Quilt I knew just what I wanted to do. These blocks are big (18″ big) and so they’re great for showing off those large scale prints you’ve been holding on to. I’ve had this print by Anna Maria Horner just sitting in my stash waiting for the perfect opportunity to come out and shine and the blocks of the Birchen Quilt allowed that to happen.

I’ve teamed it with Zen Chic and Lizzy House to complement the colours in the pattern and tried to just let the brown do it’s own thing. I normally shy away from brown, but as always Anna Maria Horner has worked her magic and paired brown with these fabulous pinks and blues. I’m so thrilled with how these blocks turned out and I’m going to transform them into his and hers cushions to add to the growing collection on our couch.

I used my Marti Michell Perfect Patchwork Template Set Q (template Q-94) for the half square triangles in these blocks and it made it such a dream. (Although you can use the 2.5″ Half Square Triangle Paper Triangles on a Roll from Fat Quarter Shop to paper piece them.) I simply cut 3″ strips the width of the fabric and layered them on top of each other and then cut the triangles. I layered them right sides together with their matching pair so that once cut I didn’t have to pull them apart I just chain pieced and pressed and bingo 40 perfect HST’s made in well under an hour.
