Week 1: Nine Patch Triple Sashings and Cornerstone

Week 1 of the 9 Patch Parade starts today and we’re kicking off with the “Nine Patch Triple Sashing and Cornerstone” Pattern by Marti Michell. This pattern is included in the 9 Patch Starter Kit and will be the basis for your entries in this month’s prize pool.

What to do this week in the Parade

Task: Read the pattern. Pick your fabrics. Start cutting out your project.

This pattern is super simple and a great warm up for the next 6 months of nine patch fun. You can use this pattern to inspire your nine patch project. For example, I’m going to use this pattern as my jumping off point to make a recycled t-shirt quilt. Or you can make the pattern exactly as it’s written. It’s totally up to you!

What I’m doing this week in the Parade

I’ve got a big stack of t-shirts that my husband no longer wears and so I’m going to use these to make a t-shirt quilt with nine patches and triple sashing. The prints on the shirts are all different sizes so I thought it would be fun to play with a layout that isn’t as regimented. That’s about as far as my plan goes. I’m totally going to be winging it. But that’s the good thing about having rulers – I don’t have to do any of the math, I just cut and make.
