This is the third year I’ll be running #100Days100Blocks and I thought it would be a great time to help those of you that might be like me and need some motivation to get our blocks made into quilt tops. I want to have my #100Days100Blocks2017 quilt finished by the time we kick off #100Days100Blocks2018. I know I’m not alone in having a stack of blocks hiding out and so if you’re one of the ones looking for some motivation and encouragement to get your blocks turned into a quilt top let me help you. Here’s all the details you need to know about #100Days100BlocksFinishalong.
When is it?
Starts: April 29 2018 (in your timezone).
Ends: June 18 2018 (in your timezone).
A note about Timezones
All dates, as written in this blog post and for the purpose of our organising, will be in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). This is the timezone for Sydney, Australia. The beauty of doing this via Instagram is that it will date stamp your images with the day and time you post it.
Where Do I Sign Up to Participate?
There is no “sign up” as such. The sew-along is based on Instagram and so all you have to do is post your progress photos and use the hashtag, #100Days100BlocksFinishalong and that’s it. Super simple and easy peasy.
How’s it going to work?
It’s simple you need to post THREE photos to Instagram between 12:01am 29 April and 11:59pm 18 June 2018:
- Declare your intention – post a photo with either writing on it or in the caption letting everyone know that you’re going to be participating in the #100Days100BlocksFinishalong. It can be a photo of your stack of blocks, it can be a photo of your sewing machine, it can be a photo of the book, it can be a photo of your cat. It doesn’t matter the content of the photo what matters is the public declaration that you’ll be making the quilt top as part of #100Days100BlocksFinishalong. You’ll need to make sure that you use the event hashtag, #100Days100BlocksFinishalong, in either your caption or a comment on the photo.
- In Progress – I want to see your quilt top coming together. I don’t care if it’s one row, three blocks or the entire thing. Show me you’re working on your quilt top! You’ll need to make sure that you use the event hashtag, #100Days100BlocksFinishalong, in either your caption or a comment on the photo.
- Finished – Show us your quilt top! It can be a flimsy, it can be full finished or it can be somewhere in between. It has to be a photo showing all 100 blocks assembled**. You’ll need to make sure that you use the event hashtag, #100Days100BlocksFinishalong, in either your caption or a comment on the photo.
** I’ve had a number of questions about making more than one quilt with your 100 blocks and I’ve decided that if you want to make smaller quilts, with less than 100 blocks in them then they’ll be eligible too. The quilt tops must be made entirely of City Sampler blocks, regardless of how many blocks are in it. This means you can’t add other quilt blocks to the front of the quilt. (This just makes it easier for me to establish that you’ve made a City Sampler quilt and stops people from sneaking in other quilt patterns.) So if you participated and only made 60 blocks, you can enter your 60 block quilt top. Or maybe you’re making a baby version and want to enter a quilt top with only 30 blocks, that’s good too. If you’re in doubt just leave me a comment or send me an email and we’ll work it out together.
It’s that simple. To be eligible for prizes you’ll need to follow some accounts, but I’ll get into those details on 12 May so you’ve got plenty of time to get what you need done.

I missed the start, can I still participate?
The answer is always YES! Participate! Unlike the #100Days100Blocks events you only need to post three photos during the event timeframe. You do not need to post specific items on specific dates. Ultimately the real prize is making a quilt of your own and connecting with amazing quilters all over the world, so please PARTICIPATE!
Where can I get the book?
There’s a number of places you can get the book if you’d like to use the book for it’s finishing instructions.
You can buy the book via these links Book Depository (click here) | Amazon (click here) | Fons & Porter (click here) | Keepsake Quilting (click here) | Interweave Store (click here) and if you do so I will make a small commission on the sale which will go towards helping me to run this amazing event. (Thank you so much!)
Where’s it happening?
Instagram is where it’s at. It will only be run on Instagram. There’s no tutorials and there’s no blog hops. It’s all about sharing your quilt tops on Instagram. You will need an Instagram account to be able to participate. Instagram is free to join and you can find it in your app store on your phone.
What if my account on Instagram is private?
I’m really sorry, but if your account is private we won’t be able to see your blocks and therefore you won’t be eligible to enter the competitions. One way around this, if you’re really keen to participate but don’t want to share your private moments (which is completely understandable), is to create a second account and just post your blocks on this account. Instagram now makes it really easy to flip between accounts so it shouldn’t be too cumbersome to manage. You can read the Instagram help file on how to do this by clicking here.
What hashtag do I need to use?
The only hashtag you’ll need to use is #100Days100BlocksFinishalong.
Is there a way of seeing all the quilt tops being made as part of the event?
Yep! You can click on the hashtag within Instagram (either on your desk top or within the app) or you can click here to see them in your browser.
I’m having some issues with Instagram, can you help?
I’ve put together a list of the Top 5 Troubleshooting Questions I get when it comes to Instagram to try and help you solve any problems you might be having. You can find it by clicking here. Unfortunately I can’t troubleshoot every problem you might be having with Instagram so I would recommend you ask Google and if you can’t get a resolution via Google then contact Instagram and get them to help out.
Do I have to use Tula Pink fabrics?
I love Tula Pink, but that doesn’t mean you have to. This is all about making a quilt that you will love and cherish, so please use whatever fabrics make your heart sing. There’s no rules about what fabrics you can use. Just have fun!
How much fabric do I need?
This depends on what setting you’ll be using for your blocks. There are suggested setting instructions within the book which contain fabric requirements. I am unable to provide fabric requirements outside of the ones contained in the book.
Do I have to make the quilt top as per the book?
No. This is all you, baby. You just have to use your 100 blocks in your quilt top. How you set them out is totally up to you and it’s all part of the adventure.
I didn’t participate in #100Days100Blocks or #100Days100Blocks2017 can I still join in?
Yes. This is about finishing a quilt top using the 100 blocks from Tula Pink’s City Sampler. I don’t care when you made them, this is all about getting a finished quilt top using all 100 blocks. (See above for block number exceptions.)
