GOODBYE & HELLO

I’ve been blogging now for just over 12 years. When I started it was a great way for me to keep the journal I’d been keeping since I was 15, just in a different format.

I blogged on LiveJournal and it was fabulous, there was a community and I could blog about whatever I wanted because I could control who saw it and who didn’t.

For various reasons I moved on from that format to self hosting my own blog.  That was nearly 10 years ago and it’s been a hell of a ride.

I’ve made so many wonderful friends and shared so much of what has been an incredible journey with people I would never have met through normal life.

I’ve had my ups and downs and through it all I kept blogging.

I’ve had periods where I wanted to be an internet sensation and periods where I just wanted to chuck it all in because it was too hard, but through it all I’ve just kept plugging away.

Life has changed for us in the past 2 years in ways I never could have imagined and it’s had an impact on my priorities and where I find enjoyment.

Blogging has become more of a chore than an enjoyment and for the past 12 months I’ve been trying to decide what to do and what direction I want to head into.

I’ve made the decision to take all of the posts up until this point (all 1,550 of them) and turn them private.

I want a little bit of mystery back in my life and I want to protect my family a little more.

I’m not going to get rid of the blog, far from it, I’m just going to change it’s focus.

I won’t be blogging in detail about our family (it’ll get a mention here and there, but there’s not going to be any more family centric posts).  I will be blogging about what I’m making though – whether that’s in the sewing room or in the kitchen.

This is about to become a blog about cooking and sewing.

I thought long and hard about whether I would just stop all together, but I love the community more than anything and so I don’t want to say goodbye to that.  I’ve become so attached to my gnome over the past 12 years that I just couldn’t say goodbye – I’m just taking a wee step back.

I’m going to cut down how often I post, I’ll post on Monday’s only.

Who knows, maybe with some time away I’ll find a renewed energy, but for now I’m going to embrace my mantra for 2014 and say “no, but thank you” to blogging about everything and spend some time focusing on what makes me happy – living life!

Edit: Over the next few weeks, months, years I’ll be going through and marking some of the craft and cooking posts as un-private (just because I still want to share some of the blogging work I’ve done). So if there’s something you’d like to see back on the blog just let me know and I’ll put it to the top of the queue.

  1. While people in the blogosphere will miss seeing your family’s adventures, I’m sure just living life will be wonderful for you guys.
