Caturday by Felice Regina

Caturday is Felice Regina‘s second fabric collection, her first Luna Sol has to be one of my all time favourites so when I heard she was releasing another line to say I was excited was an understatement. I confess I’m missing the quilters gene that is for loving cats. I like cats, but I don’t go ape for cats. I went a little bit ape for Caturday. So ape in fact that I took the bundle that I’d been sent by Felice and turned it into this fun little mini project for Make Modern Issue 16 (click here to purchase the issue).

As you know I’m a fussy cutter addict and so this collection really wow’d me because (and this is really important) it’s a great mix of fussy cut friendly prints (look at those cat faces and cute kitties!) and blenders (the blenders are key to making fussy cutting work – they help balance out the focal points and not over crowd your work). I love the colour palette for this collection as well. It’s not necessarily a colour palette I would naturally lean towards but it’s one that hooked me with the purple, pink, orange and yellow (a good yellow print is worth it’s weight in gold!). By the end of my time playing with this collection I even loved the brown and realised just how great it is to have a brown that you can use. This one works really well with blue and aqua as well as the colours in this collection.

The addition of some low volume prints also adds to the versatility. They’re soft and textured and are just the right shades to provide interest but not detract from what you’re trying to achieve with your piecing. It’s a collection that works well on it’s own or (and this is the bit that excites me as someone who rarely works within one collection) it blends into your stash and provides depth which is something we all need.

It is a clever set of prints, so I can see how your fussy cutting heart was beating a bit faster. I’ll have to keep an eye out for a few of these for a niece who is cat crazy.
