CRAFTY | PEAS IN A POD SCRAP VOMIT

In the middle of the year I made my first Scrap Vomit (Samuel’s Technicolour Yawn) and it was such a great quilt to make that I knew I had to make another version. I just wasn’t sure how I could justify making the same quilt twice in less than a year (turns out – not that hard to do!).

I made this quilt for the wonderful Tamara (of One Craftee Mumma) and her family of boys.

I figured given the fact that they live in Queensland (not known for it’s cold winters), and that there’s 4 beds (I didn’t want them fighting over who got it), I’d make it in a couch snuggling size and then they could all share it.

These quilts go together really quickly once you have all the squares cut. I just chain piece them and do all the blocks at once. It’s a couple of hours but so satisfying to see it come together.

I used Architextures text in charcoal, Barcelona city maps in steel and Kona black for the B Blocks.

I went with a more subdued colour palette than my scrap vomit because I didn’t know what kind of colour scheme it was going in to, it’s a predominantly boys house and no everyone likes eyeball burning brights like I do.

I’m really stoked with how it came out. The only thing I stressed about is making sure all the text in the blocks is running the right way round – although it might have been cool to see what effect it would have given to have them all mixed.

I wanted the quilt done in time for Christmas so I was super lucky to have Jo (of Jo Loves to Quilt) quilt it for me.  Jo used an organic swirl pattern that looks like rain drops falling on water. It’s wonderful.

I asked Jo to machine bind it in Architextures in Black and it looks amazing. I love the look of the text on the binding.  It also means that if the quilt is dragged around the edges shouldn’t show up too much dirt.

I really hope they all love it and it gets years of use and love.

I feel like I’ve lost steam this year after the Exhibition so it’s nice to finish the year with a completed quilt.  Just need to take this momentum into 2014.
