How to Make Your Room Smell Nice (Sponsored)

Today I’m talking about how to make your room smell nice with Airwick’s new Life Scents range. I don’t know about you, but our house is a cacophony of smells, from the wet Beagle to the nappy pale and on occasion our toilet (totally not because of me!). There are days when I open the front door to be nasally assaulted by the smells of our every day life and it’s so much worse in the depths of winter when the house is closed up to try and retain heat.

The smell of toddler ablutions can sometimes be really overpowering despite using a nappy disposal unit and emptying it daily. There’s no getting around it, the kid eats food and it has to come out sooner or later. I normally burn a candle to try and cover the odour on days when I know someone else is coming to visit (no one needs to smell that!). I remember Gemma commenting one day on how much of a good housewife I was because when she popped around I had a candle burning on the entrance table which helped make our living room smell nice.

Now, I could have taken the compliment and not let her in on the why but I don’t want to perpetuate some false belief that I’m one of those mother’s that managing to do everything and still light a candle. I’m not, I’m holding on by my fingernails and lighting a candle seemed like the polite way of not sharing the stench of motherhood with our guests. So I confessed to her that I’d lit the candle to try and cover the poop smell that was suddenly in our house because our Son has perfect comic timing. 

Gemma laughed hard at my confession and we now refer to it as the “poop candle”. Lighting a candle is a great way to add some ambience and add a subtle fragrance to your room. I put the Airwick Life Scents Freshamtic in Winter Moments (baked pear, pie crust and vanilla) in the toilet and the Airwick Life Scents Scented Oil Diffuser in Turquoise Oasis (Driftwood, Sea Spray and Warm Breeze) and Mystical Garden (Marshmallow, Raspberry and Rose) in our combined family and dining room.

Both of them are out of the way of the curious toddler which is great. They both have the ability to control the fragrance level which is really handy if you’re sensitive to perfumes like I am.

Airwick also sent me the Life Scents Reed Diffuser in Winter Moments. The reed diffuser is great for releasing a subtle fragrance throughout your room. This one is definitely one to leave out of reach of the toddler (those reeds are just a little hand magnet). I put this one in our bedroom and it’s been so nice to go to sleep and wake up in a room that no longer smells of wet towels, socks and overnight odour releasing. It might also explain why I’ve been dreaming of apple pies!

I have been really surprised with how well I’ve enjoyed using these Airwick products. I have to confess I find a lot of the fragrances on the market to be really overpowering and sickly, but being able to control the level has made it so much more enjoyable. I think my favourite fragrance in the range has to be Mystical Garden (Marshmallow, Raspberry and Rose) which is a little bit girly. Winter Moments (baked pear, pie crust and vanilla) reminds me of my favourite Christmas shop here in Canberra which is a great treat as I adore Christmas.
