MEET THE QUILTING MILL

A little while ago I was in a little thing called Sewvivor and it was while on that whirlwind adventure I met Barbie of The Quilting Mill.
Barbie blew me away with her quilting and creativity when we hit the bag challenge in Sewvivor. I had never seen quilting the “glowed” and her quilting just seemed to glow on her bag. (You can read about Barbie’s entry here.)
She demonstrated a level of control and skill that I had rarely seen and she did it all under a massive amount of pressure. It was amazing.
I’ve loved getting to know Barbie more since Sewvivor has ended and I hope you enjoy learning more about her now.

1. How did you come to be a quilter?
When I was in high school mother and I used to watch “Simply Quilts” with Alex Andersen on HGTV. That was my first exposure to quilting, and I made my first quilt when I was 16. My quilt-making picked up when I got married and I started making baby quilts for friends. I tried doing my own domestic quilting and discovered it was really hard! So we (yep, hubby quilts sometimes too) sent our quilts out to be quilted for a few years. After my 2nd child was born I bought a small quilting machine on a Grace frame which I quickly outgrew, and was fortunate enough to purchase my own longarm machine last year. It takes up a huge part of the basement.

Wowee, what eye candy! I’m always in awe of people who can quilt like this – it’s just amazing.
And the bacon quilt – that there is a work of art. The men of the world salute you, Barbie!
