Nurses Cross for Jen Kingwell’s Gypsy Wife Quilt Sew-along
Nurses Cross is the block of choice for this week in the Jen Kingwell’s Gypsy Wife Quilt Sew-along. This week we’ve got a foundation paper pieced pattern available for this block if the thought of piecing this fills you with dread. Be warned though, in the FPP version the crosses in the middle of the block are slightly smaller and the triangles slightly bigger. It’s not too noticeable, but for those of you who are sticklers you might find it off putting. You can get the free pattern by clicking here. For the purpose of the prize pool we’ll accept either version.
If you’re new to Foundational Paper Piecing then check out my tutorial on how to foundation paper piece. Click here to read more.

Notes on Assembly
We’re not due to start on the construction of the quilt top until December 14 2017, but I’ve been working on it behind-the-scences to make sure that we’re able to troubleshoot any issues that may arise for people. I’ve updated the line drawing to reflect where there’s an error in the pattern and included more information about block sizes as well.

For those of you that are using this line diagram to help work out your strips I wanted to remind you that the small print on this diagram is that there’s been some changes to the strips. Please be mindful of this when it comes to assembly.
That’s everything… for now… as always if you have any questions either drop me a line or leave a comment below and I’ll do my best to help you out. I hope you love making this quilt as much as I have, it’s such a fun way to make a unique sampler.

I’m having a heck of a time getting the nurses wife block to come out big enough. Has any one else had issues?
Thanks, Beth
Hi Beth, what method of construction are you using for the block? If you’re using the foundation paper pieced pattern have you checked to make sure you’re printing the pattern at 100% by measuring the pattern pieces once printed? Most printers default to a smaller scale when printing and so you may have to manually update your printer settings when printing the file. ❤️
Hello, I just pieced it but now I printed out the paper and will try that. Thanks for getting back to me.

Hie Angie..I posted my Puss in the Corner on Thursday Sept 21. Last week I noticed that feed was gone from my personal page. I think it happened via two little grand girls!! Any way I didn’t want to repost if you already have me marked for doing that block. So that is my question…am I good or do I need to repost? Also…will there be more specific info concerning the strips and construction of Gypsy Wife when it is scheduled to do…as I have mine blocks done but that construction looks crazy! Thank you so much for your help.
Conni
Hi Conni, You’ll need to repost all the photos you’ve lost. I don’t keep track of who’s posted what during the event, I go through at the end of the event and look for all the images that I need to award a winner. We will also be going through and giving you information about how to assemble the quilt when we get there. It’s not that difficult, you just need to keep a pencil handy to mark on your pattern where’ you’re at with the strips. ?❤️
