TIME TO LINK YOUR DILLY BAG PROGRESS

Today marks the half way point in our Dilly Bag-a-Long. Can you believe it’s been 2 weeks already? (I have a theory that time speeds up the closer you get to Christmas and then slow downs as soon as you return to work in the new year.)
We’ve seen some fabulous Dilly Bag‘s from Sharon (of Simple Things), Sharon (of The Projects of my Life) and Judith (of Just Jude).
I’ve been slowly plugging away on making my version of the Dilly Bag and I’m loving it!

I decided to use fabrics of just one colour; green. I then raided my stash and looked for a mix of fabrics that would allow me to have some fun fussy cutting (check out those mice and foxes) and fabrics that would work well as blenders.
I’m using 2″ hexagon paper and glue basting them. (If you’d like to know more about how to glue baste hexagons check out this tutorial by Katy Jones (of I’m a Ginger Monkey) – it’s the tutorial I used to learn how to baste hexagons.)

Over the past 2 weeks I’ve been multitasking and working on my hexagons in between doing my online chores, watching television with the lads and any other time I can squeeze in some hand sewing.

It’s been fun watching the hexagons grow and seeing just how big thisย Dilly Bag will be.
I happened to comment to Judy Newman that I loved the rabbit fabric she had used in a couple versions of her Dilly Bag and she said that it had become a bit of a tradition to include a rabbit in each Dilly Bag.
I love a good bunny fabric and so I just had to keep the tradition alive by including some little rabbits around the place.

I’ve now got all my hexagons together and I’ve cut the additional fabrics so it’s only a matter of time (and having all my chores done) before I get around to pulling it altogether and finishing it off. I’m really looking forward to seeing it all done. I suspect I’ll be making moreย Dilly Bags in the coming years as they make a fabulous present.
Who’s coming up next in the Dilly Bag-a-Long Blog Hop?
We still have 4 fabulous bloggers to help keep us motivated and going until the end of the Dilly Bag-a-Long. You can get a bit of a sneak peek at their blogs via the following links:
Wednesday 8 October: Kate @ Stitched with Love
Friday 10 October: Kathy @ iamacraftykat
Monday 13 October: Barbara @ Sunflower Stitcheries
Wednesday 15 October: Rachel @ Little White Dove
Friday 17 October: End link party here @ GnomeAngel.com
All entries submitted on the final link party will go in the running to win either a mystery prize from Judy Newman or Sarah Fielkeโs โLittle Quiltsโ or a mystery F8โs fabric bundle from me. There will be 3 winners voted on by the public.
You will be able to register your entry, via the link party (simply using the #dillbagalong hashtag on Instagram or sharing your project in the Facebook Group will not be sufficient to enter the draw, youโll need to link to the blog post via the Inlinkz widget), from Friday 17 October at 9am AEST until Monday 20 October at 8:55am AEST.
Once your project is linked up it will be eligible for voting on by the public. You can promote your entry via social media, your own blog, skywriter โ any way youโd like.
Voting will open Monday 20 October at 9am AEST and close Wednesday 22 October at 5pm AEST. Winners will be announced on Friday 24 October at 9am AEST.
There’s still time to make your own Dilly Bag!
Don’t worry if you’ve not started, there’s still heaps of time to make a dilly bag.ย If you would like to purchase Judy Newman’s pattern for the Dilly Bag you can do so byย clicking here.
Link your Dilly Bag Progress Here
Here’s some tips for getting the most out of your link.
1. Link up any blog post or Instagram photo that shows your progress on the Dilly Bag. (This way we can all come on over and check it out and show you some love.)
2. If you are linking up a blog post it would be fabulous (but not complusory) if you linked to my blog somewhere in that post. (It helps others to find out about what’s happening and share the information.)
3. If you are linking to an Instagram photo, please hashtag #dillybagalong and mention me, @gnomeangel. (It’s another great way to connect with people who are also participating in the Dilly Bag-a-Long and helps me to find you!) To link an Instagram photo, click the Instagram icon in the link-up screen, and use the URL of your IG feed as the link (for example, my URL would be www.instagram.com/gnomeangel).
4. It would be swell if you could comment on at least a few of the other links, either IG or blogโcommenting on the two or three links directly before yours works well to make sure everyone gets comments! (Another great way to connect and build a strong group of fabulous stitchers!)

Your green version looks great A! One of my favourite colours! Jxo
What lovely shades of green! I too cannot wait to see the finished piece! Look forward to it. I cannot even sew a button! LOL You are simply amazing! When I was younger, my mum sent me to cross-stitch class, I refused to go after 2 classes. ๐
I love all your greens!
Thanks Kelly. I love it too, but I see a brighter version in my future ๐
I’m in. At last. The fussy-cutting opportunities are just too tempting. Plus – cute bag! Just bought the pattern, so I’ll be madly playing catch up. Have a lovely weekend. xx
Woohoo! You’re going to do a fabulous version I know it. It comes together really quickly (especially if you use the bigger hexagons – the ones in the pattern are 1.5″). I just found finding cord and ribbon to work with it the hardest part… so many wonderful possibilities out there.
