Link Love: Winners Together

The Canberra Craft and Quilt Show happened on the weekend and I’m really thrilled to share that our Round We Go quilt took out first place in the group quilts category. Technically the sew-along is still happening with the final blocks being made and revealed this month, but we pushed ahead a little so that we could enter it in the show. I will do a full reveal and all the glamour shots of the quilt once we get to that point in the sew-along. I’m really thrilled that we won, but not for the obvious reasons. I’m really grateful for the experience of being able to make something with two people I really respect and admire, both personally and professionally.

Caroline (of Nightingale Quilts) has such an eye for pattern and design. She’s designed some of the most stunning and complex looking quilts and then does amazing fussy cutting work. She’s got an amazing heart and she’s really supportive of her friends and all the crazy ideas I have. Raylee (of Sunflower Stitcheries and Quilting) has been my quilting ninja for at least 6 years now and every time I think she’s done something she’ll never be able to top, she tops it. She’s generous of spirit, supportive and one of the only people I’ll trust with my work. She never points out my faults, she’s always uplifting and the quilting on this quilt is probably the first time I can point to quilting that she’s done and go “That’s her totally expressed in thread”.

I’m really excited to get together with the ladies and really look at the quilt. It was finished and submitted to the quilt show so quickly that none of us really got much time with it. I can’t wait to see all the little details and things that Raylee did with her quilting. We also need to work out how we’re going to photograph it. Should be a fun excursion for all of us. Anyways, that’s the big news in my week that was. I’m looking forward to another fun filled week this week as we prepare for some big things that are coming up. The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt Sew-along is coming! This is the first book (brown cover) by Laurie Aaron Hird and it started the worldwide craze that was the Farmer’s Wife Quilt. There’s 111 blocks in this book and we’ll be making them all. I’ve partnered with Paper Pieces to bring you an exciting new way to construct the blocks using English Paper Piecing. (Don’t worry, you can use whatever method you like to make them if you want to sew-along with us and be eligible to win prizes!). I love seeing the quilts and projects that are made during my sew-alongs or from my book and I’ve decided I’m going to start sharing them with you all so that you can see the amazing work being done within this fabulous creative community. Make sure the image is well lit and clearly shows your work so people can truly appreciate your handy work. Margaret Eagles has written two books for quilters. The first one ” Made with love. The story of your quilt” replaces a card when giving a quilt as a gift. The maker personalities the book with fabric and photos of the making of the quilt. The second book is a children’s book “My Grandma makes patchwork quilts”.
