Link Love: Have a Break
Some times you’ve just got to laugh, right? Last week our 6yo went off to the school holiday program at his school and went to a local trampoline fun place thingie. I was nervous about sending him because the temperature that day was forecast to hit 40 degrees celsius and I was worried about him getting heat stroke. Turns out, what I should have been worried about was him hurting himself and the people in charge not treating it seriously.
While he was there he had a fall on the trampoline mats (which none of the carers witnessed) and hurt his arm. He wouldn’t let anyone touch it, he was crying and in a sign that something was truly wrong he didn’t want to go back to bouncing. They let him sit out the excursion before bringing him back to the school and then calling the third number on our contact form to let us know he’d hurt himself. Not that we should come get him or that they were seeking medical assistance, but that he’d had a fall and was currently icing his arm.
I rushed down there to pick him up and took him straight to the ER. Turns out he’s fractured his arm/elbow (they’re waiting on a second round of X-rays later this week to confirm). As a mother who already has a stupid amount of guilt about sending him to school holiday program (something I only do because he begged us to go and I compromised and sent him for a couple of days a week) this has just pushed me well into the camp of “you’re not going”. It’s not that he hurt himself, that could happen to anyone, it’s that they failed to treat it adequately. The poor kid did 4+ hours of no pain relief or medical intervention. It kills me.
Looking on the positive side – I was able to get down there, he was able to get medical assistance and I can structure my work day to accomodate having him with me. Plus, now I get to spend time with him playing Lego, Minecraft, reading and just being dorks before he’s off back to school in February.
So, if you’re keeping count at home this is two ER visits in under a month. Gotta love kids! I hope your week has less ER visits then mine! *wink* Wishing you a week filled with love, laughter and much fabric fondling!

I’m glad he is OK – but knowing a bit about trampoline parks – the staff at the park should have also been on the case. I hope they were.
