MEET JUDY NEWMAN

Today is all about Judy Newman (of A Very Fine House). Judy is an Australian Quilter who is really passionate about sharing her love of quilting, knowledge and boundless energy with quilters everywhere.
I was introduced to Judy’s work through the fabulous Marie (of Quilts with Personality) who suggested Judy’s Dilly Bag would be a great project for The Fussy Cutters Club. Marie was right, and The Dilly Bag-a-Long was born and with it my admiration and love of Judy’s work.
Judy’s work has a really soft, antique and timeless feel to them; you can tell that these are quilts that are made with love to be loved and used everyday.
Judy is very generous with her skills and loves to teach quilters of all levels and see their passion for quilting grow, it’s something I really love and admire about her.
On top of all of this wonderfulness Judy also works at Amitie Textiles (a quilt shop in Melbourne) – how amazing would that be!

How did you come to be a quilter?
It was quite by accident really and yet I can’t help feeling that there was a good dose of “fate” involved. I had very young children at the time and was taking them for a walk and happened to walk right past a quilt shop. I fell in love with that shop on sight. The quilts were displayed in the window and I stopped and stared, rooted to the spot. The juxtaposition of colour and design was so beautiful, I have to say it was a pivotal moment in my life. I booked into an evening class with a friend and the rest is history.
