MEET CAT & VEE

Today we’re getting 2 awesome creative for the price of one because we’re spending time with Cat & Vee.

I’m not quite sure how these two amazing women fell into my life, but I know for certain my life is a lot more colourful because of it. I “met” Cat first and was immediately drawn to her sense of fun and use of pattern and colour with her quilting. (She’s the whole reason I made an undies quilt!)

Although we’ve never actually met in person Cat has shown me such generosity and kindness of spirit that I’m sure if we were to meet one day I wouldn’t be able to help myself from giving her a giant hug.

Vee and I have only just recently “met” but I can tell that we’re probably going to have some great laughs in our future – she’s a self-confessed potty mouthed gnome after all. Together they’re my favourite design duo in Australia!

I’m introducing them to you in reverse order today (I figured Cat always goes first because of the business name so it’s only fair Vanita goes first now) and because I secretly dream of hosting a couples game show I asked them the same questions to see if they’re compatible. It’s an interesting little adventure to see how these two creatives tick…

How did you come to be a textile artist?

I have always loved interior design and fabric design and textures. I realised I had โ€˜serious fabric issuesโ€™ when I started hording fabrics about 6 years ago but not then having the patience to sew with them. It was the design, colour and texture of the fabrics that drew me in. My โ€˜ahaโ€™ moment was when I enrolled in Graphic Design in 2011.

What is it that you love about being a textile artist?

I love the fact we can print onto fabric and not onto paper and that our designs have a purpose within peoples homes that can be sat on, laid on and touched. I really love the crafty people in the sewing & quilting community that we come into contact with everyday. What an awesome bunch of clever, talented and kind peeps.
